A NIGHT AT THE RANCH WAS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!
To celebrate its milestone birthday of 85 years, Laguna Blanca School went back to its roots for the annual spring benefit on April 27, welcoming friends, family, alumni, faculty, and staff back to where it all began. Aptly named A Night at the Ranch, the event was held for the first time on Laguna’s picturesque Hope Ranch campus, where the doors were first opened to students on September 21, 1933.

THE CAST AND CREW OF ONCE UPON A MATTRESS INVITES YOU TO THEIR DEBUT PERFORMANCE TONIGHT!
IT'S SHOWTIME!

Laguna Blanca’s Theatre Department will present three performances of the musical comedy Once Upon a Mattress, May 2-4 at 7pm in the school’s Spaulding Theatre.

Carried on a wave of raucous and romantic songs, Once Upon a Mattress puts its own spin on the classic story of The Princess and The Pea.

Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab?

Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste?

Or that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night?

Laguna Blanca’s rollicking tale of royal courtship and comeuppance is directed by Performing Arts Instructor Dana Caldwell.

LAGUNA TRACK SEASON FINISHES STRONG
Last week ended the track season for the Owls!

"Coach Zailik and I are so grateful to have been a part of the season that brought track and field back to Laguna," says Head of Middle School and Track Coach Shane Lopes. "Track and field is unique in that it offers a diverse set of opportunities for students to develop their own individual athleticism in a team setting. This season would not have been possible without the leadership of Jason Donnelly and the participation from our athletes. We are thrilled that the program is off the ground and we're looking forward to an even stronger program next year!"

One of the highlights of the season was that Pisci Abrego '20 was named Frontier League Champion in the 400 meter, which qualified her for CIF.

Congratulations on a successful season, Owls!
INTRODUCING THE INAUGURAL
LBS SOAPBOX DERBY!
  WEDNESDAY, MAY 29
9:30-11:30AM
Paloma Drive, Hope Ranch Campus

This exciting and educational event is being spearheaded by Laguna's Upper School engineering class—all of whom will be racing in their own engineered soapboxes. The derby is open to all Upper School students and all Laguna faculty and staff.

Parents are invited to cheer on the participants and students are encouraged to attend during free periods or community time.

In an effort to keep materials out of the landfills, all soapbox parts must be scavenged. Families are invited to donate used items to the STEM lab (i.e. wheels from baby buggies, golf carts, bikes, wheelbarrows). Thank you!

Click here for the LBS Soapbox Derby Rules.

Interested in participating? Please register by May 22 by emailing STEM Instructor John Pagano .

Special note: Paloma Drive will be closed to traffic on May 29 from 9AM-12PM, therefore no special lunch deliveries will be accepted that day.
