FCC Announces Plans to Authorize All-Digital AM Radio at October 27 Open Meeting

The FCC this week released its agenda for its October 27 open meeting. At that meeting the FCC will consider a number of issues of relevance to broadcasters, including enhanced white space use in the TV band and an expansion of the requirement for audio description of video programming. It also plans to adopt an order authorizing licensees of AM stations to voluntarily transition to all-digital AM operations. Read More

WSYM to Build Local News Staff in 2021
The E.W. Scripps Company has announced that it will expand its commitment to Michigan audiences early next year by producing its own local newscasts at WSYM-TV, its FOX affiliate in Lansing. Read More

Entercom Announces New Morning Co-Hosts for WYCD, WYXT
Entercom has announced that Josh Holleman has been added as morning co-host for WYCD-FM (Detroit). He'll join co-hosts Rachael Hunter and Steve Grunwald as part of "Josh, Rachael and Grunwald in the Morning," ... Leon Hendrix to Leave WOOD After 13 Years
WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) anchor Leon Hendrix has announced plans to leave the station after more than 13 years. Hendrix started in the News 8 newsroom in June of 2007 as a weekend overnight associate producer. Read More

Radio Hall of Fame Goes Virtual October 29, Detroit's Donnie Simpson Among 2020 Inductees

WKDS License Transfer Filed
A formal application for license transfer of Kalamazoo Public School's WKDS-FM to Western Michigan University was filed October 5 at the FCC. This follows a meeting held April 30 when the Kalamazoo Public Schools board voted to sell the district's radio station to Western Michigan University, who presently operate WMUK-FM. Read More

WDET Announces Programming Changes to 'On Point,' Adds '1A' to Schedule
WDET-FM (Detroit) has announced changes to their schedule. The popular show On Point, produced by WBUR in Boston and broadcast every weekday on WDET and NPR stations nationwide - will now air from 10 to 11 a.m. After internal and external review with staff and listeners, WDET decided to add the show 1A to immediately follow, from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays to fill the open time vacated by On Point.
