Govt. Building City from Scratch to Attract Foreign Investors

India is building a new city to give global investors an easy way into its booming economy.Gradually mushrooming on an 886-acre parcel of land in Gujarat is a small collection of buildings that India hopes will one day rival financial centers like Singapore, Dubai and Hong Kong. It's called Gujarat International Finance-Tec City, or GIFT City. 


 
FM Jaitley: Privatization Efforts Yield $15 Billion in Receipts

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the Government has collected more than $15 billion through disinvestment in state-owned companies in the current fiscal year, more than double the amount of the previous year. 

 
Texas Gov. Abbot Meets with PM Modi

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott had an hour-long discussion with Prime Minister Modi at his residence in New Delhi, in what the governor's office is calling "historic," as it was the first time the Indian premier has held a meeting with a U.S. governor. Abbott was on a nine-day trade mission through India and visited Mumbai and Bengaluru.

 
Govt. to Use AI, Blockchain Tech for Seamless Cargo Movement

Zero human intervention in cross-border trade is something the Finance Ministry says it is exploring, using blockchain technology and artificial intelligence (AI) for cargo movement. Besides saving cost and time, it could help India vastly improve its ranking on the "trading across borders" parameter under the World Bank's ease of doing business index.

PM Modi Among Time Magazine's Most Influential of 2018

Prime Minister Modi is a contender for Time Magazine's annual most influential list, joining fellow Indian Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. Modi was named by the Time editors among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2015, with former U.S. President Barack Obama writing a profile of him for the magazine.

 
India Overtakes Japan to Become World's No. 2 Steelmaker

India has bypassed Japan into the global No. 2 spot of steel producers trailing only China. India's steel output rose by 3.4 percent in February, while Japan's decreased. India overtook the U.S. for third place in 2015.

Delaware Governor Seeks Increased India Ties

Describing India as a major market and a strategic country, Delaware Gov. John Carney said he is seeking an increase in the bilateral trade relationship with India. "Delaware is open for business," Carney told Indian media, as he urged Indian companies to establish their foothold in the state.


Animated PM Modi Leads Yoga Instruction Video


Yoga enthusiast and Indian PM Modi has become an instructor, releasing an animated video of himself demonstrating different poses. The videos, published on Modi's official YouTube page and heavily promoted by members of his party on social media, depict a 3D animation of the Indian leader practicing poses such as the tadasana and the trikonasana.

 


MIT-India Conference Set for April 8

Top innovators and thought leaders will gather for a brainstorming session at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 8 to hold discussions on transforming the economic, social and technological landscape of India. The conference's theme will be "Pioneering Innovation."
