IACP COMP PAC Reveals NEW COMP PAC Programs!

A Message from Your COMP PAC Chair - Shawn Hodges, PharmD
Shawn Hodges, PharmD IACP Vice President and COMP PAC Chair

What Your IACP COMP PAC Committee is Doing for You

The IACP COMP PAC Committee has been really active and 2018 is shaping up to be an amazing year! Since our last newsletter, we have had multiple PAC events, had more IACP members joins the COMP PAC Committee, and raised even more money for IACP COMP PAC.   I want to thank our COMP PAC Committee members and all the COMP PAC donors. What a fantastic group of passionate people! Thanks to the Committee members and donors we were co-hosts on an extremely success PAC event in Utah for Congressman Stewart!

Now Your COMP PAC Committee is launching all new COMP PAC Programs!

The COMP PAC Committee has been working diligently to bring you new programs that give you the opportunity to be more involved with the IACP COMP PAC, share your stories and your patients' stories with Members of Congress, and become more engaged in preserving patient access through the IACP COMP PAC!

(1)   Today, We're Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth is - the COMP PAC Match Program! - To generate some immediate contributions to our PAC fund, we are launching a new  COMP  PAC Match program!  It's a very simple concept - for every $1 donated to COMP PAC, our PAC Committee members will match that donation by $1. We are thrilled to tell you that we tallied $16,250! Want to help boost that amount? Contact us at (281) 933-8400 and give to your IACP COMP PAC!

(2)   In addition, we are officially launching the NEW COMP PAC Tier Program!  The new IACP COMP PAC Tier Program recognizes those of you that are donating to the IACP COMP PAC by giving you valuable COMP PAC benefits.  Not only do you get to support pharmacy champions in Congress, but you also receive amazing COMP PAC benefits!  It's a win-win for everyone!

(3)   We've also created a Monthly Payment System!  Many of you have asked for a monthly donation program versus a one-time donation plan. We're making that happen for you!  We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you to donate to COMP PAC. Now you can spread out those COMP PAC contributions to help with your budgeting. I'm a pharmacy owner, and I know you have a lot of financial responsibilities. We're providing you with a more flexible way to donate to COMP PAC. Let us know what you think! Help us make this a success! *Please note per the FEC, monthly contributions are tallied for the calendar year, not twelve months from the first monthly donation.  Benefits for the monthly donations will not go into effect until the following year.  If you would like to receive the benefits for your monthly donation level in the year you start donating, you will need to pre-pay the total amount of the level of benefits you desire.

(4)  NEW CCH COMP PAC Programs!  We've heard from YOU that you want more opportunities at CCH to meet Members of Congress in-person and share your stories.  This year, we will be adding an additional opportunity to meet a Pharmacy Champion to the CCH agenda, and in future years we will continue to add these opportunities to the agenda to give you the opportunity to meet in a small setting with Members of Congress that are helping to preserve patient access!  So, do not forget to Save the Date and get your tickets for the COMP PAC Dinner and Fundraisers being held during Compounders on Capitol Hill! You can reserve your ticket for the COMP PAC dinner HERE We will be sending out more details about the additional COMP PAC events at CCH in the coming weeks, so watch your inbox for additional information!

(5) Check out those brand-new PAC Pins! Be recognized for your COMP PAC donations! They're gorgeous and I know I'll be wearing mine at  Compounders on Capitol Hill this year. Find out how to get one of your own!

In addition to our new programs that recognize YOU as an IACP COMP PAC donor and give you the opportunity to support pharmacy champions in Congress,  please keep us in the loop on any district fundraising events you believe IACP COMP PAC should support. Email us at [email protected] with any requests!

We would love to have you on the COMP PAC Team! If you are interested in joining the COMP PAC Committee, it's not too later.  Email us at [email protected] and let us know you'd like to join.

So Get Involved! Meet with Your Members of Congress! Donate to COMP PAC!

Thanks for Your Support,

What is a PAC?

A PAC, or "political action committee," is simply a group that is organized to contribute to political campaigns. Prior to the creation of PACs in the early 1970s, campaigns were funded without public disclosure, leading to a series of scandals in 1972. PACs are merely the vehicle to make campaign financing public. A PAC is a separate bank account whose income and expenditures are monitored by the federal government through the Federal Election Commission.

Laws limit donations and prohibit certain kinds of spending. PAC donations to candidates support their "cost of doing business" - their overhead or campaign-related expenses. Each candidate's PAC must account for all expenditures the candidate makes in the campaign to ensure that funds are not being improperly used.

A PAC contribution is generally regarded as a political message of support for the member of Congress. IACP COMP PAC raises money to strategically support the campaigns of candidates who support pharmacy compounding and to oppose efforts to restrict the practice. A PAC is a means of ensuring that the right people represent IACP in Congress.
Rules of a PAC

PACs are governed by a litany of federal rules; however, we try to make contributing as simple as possible. Here are the most important rules governing contributions to COMP PAC:
  • Contributions can only be made by IACP members and spouses who are U.S. citizens.
  • Contributions can only be made from PERSONAL accounts - a PERSONAL credit card or PERSONAL check only.
  • There is a $5,000 maximum contribution per person, per calendar year.
  • Contributions to COMP PAC are not tax-deductible.
  • PAC contributions are not reimbursable by an employer or any other entity.
  • Contributions to COMP PAC are strictly voluntary and a member can choose not to give without risk of reprisal or retaliation.
  • The Federal Election Commission (FEC) requires that COMP PAC attempt to collect certain information on each donor (name, address, occupation, employer) for reporting purposes.
