Alumnus Jeffrey Stockbridge is awarded The Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship

The Drexel Photography Program is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Stockbridge, class of 2005, has been awarded a Guggenheim Foundation Grant for his Kensington Blues Project.  This accomplishment is a testament to Jeff's tireless work for over a decade about a subject that has become one of the nation's largest health issues.  It is a milestone for both Jeff and the Drexel Photography Program.

Tyler Haughey at AIPAD

Tyler Haughey, class of 2012, whose work was featured at AIPAD's The Photography Show in New York by the Sears Peyton Gallery deserves a congratulations!  This is another milestone for our alumni.  The work displayed was from his book, Everything is Regional, which was released last summer to critical praise.

One of the world's most prestigious annual photography events, The Photography Show is the longest-running and foremost exhibition dedicated to the photographic medium, offering a wide range of museum-quality work, including contemporary, modern, and 19th-century photographs as well as photo-based art, video, and new media.

Jane Raese in Times Square

Jane Raese, class of 2016, had  an image she made featured larger than life in Times Square! This is a first for one of our alumni and is a huge achievement for Jane. Her work is also being featured on Spotify.

This image was actually made while still a student in the Photography Program at Drexel.
Stuart Rome's Retirement

Please join us on May 31st at 6 PM in the Urban Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St) for a lecture by Stuart Rome about his work from the past thirty five years until present. Stuart founded the Photography Program in 1985 and it has developed into one of the most elite undergraduate programs in the United States. The students that Stuart has mentored have gone on to successful careers and have won many prestigious awards. Stuart has decided after a long, illustrious career at Drexel to retire. The evening's talk and the following reception are in recognition for all Stuart has done to make the Photography Program the success it is today.

Stuart has worked as a photographer since the 1970's during which he began exhibiting works in color - both landscapes and portraits, entitled, Modern Mythologies. His first solo exhibition was presented at the International Museum of Photography in 1978.

His interests in anthropology led to projects photographing antiquities in Latin America and Asia as well as recording remnants of these expressions found in the rituals of trance. This documentary work led to landscape photographs of forests as a manifestation of pantheistic energy.

Stuart Rome has exhibited extensively over the years in solo and group exhibitions - in galleries and museums. Amongst his publications are: "Maya, Treasures of an Ancient Civilization" Abrams, "Forest" Nazraeli Press and "Signs and Wonders", Southeast Museum of Photography. His most current project, "Oculus" was awarded the Simon Guggenheim Foundation Award in 2015.
