Local Elections are this Saturday, May 4
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, May 4 for City Council and School Board Elections. North Richland Hills City Council Places 1, 3, 5 and 7 are on the ballot. Each place is elected at large for a two-year term. Candidates are:
- Place 1 - Eliud Jimenez and Tito Rodriguez;
- Place 3 - Suzy Compton;
- Place 5 - Mike Benton;
- Place 7 - Tim Welch.

Voters are required to go to their designated voting location based on their 4-digit precinct number found on voter registration card. Voting will take place at the NRH Library at 9015 Grand Ave., Dan Echols Center at 6801 Glenview Drive and former Bursey Road Senior Center at 7301 Bursey Road.

Provide Your Input for Vision 2030 Strategic Plan
Following two-years of planning and public input, the Vision 2030 strategic planning process is coming to a close this spring. There's still time for NRH residents to provide input
on the
plan, which will guide land use and transportation system priorities over the next decade.

to view the draft Vision 2030 plan and submit comments.
The Strategic Plan Committee will meet on Thursday, May 9 to consider their final recommendations for the draft Vision 2030 land use and transportation plans. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall and is open to the public. Once final plans are recommended by the Strategic Plan Committee, public hearings will be scheduled before the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council. Library Hosts Super Hero Un-Run & Free Comic Book Day
Check out these family fun events this Saturday, May 4, at your North Richland Hills Library.
The Super Hero Un-Run 0.5K will start at 9:00 a.m. in the Library parking lot at 9015 Grand Ave. This unique "Un-Run" is only a 0.5K so everyone can be a hero for 1 lap! Participants are encouraged to wear their super hero gear and bring their super hero attitude. All proceeds from the run support children's literacy programs at the NRH Library. Immediately following your super hero lap (even if you have to stop in the middle for a donut) stay and enjoy the NRH Library's Free Comic Book Day. Enjoy comic book themed activities, crafts and photo ops with characters throughout the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Free comic books will be available while supplies last. Water Conservation Tip: Don't Over Water
Each summer we see a spike in water use, mostly due to an increas
e in outdoor watering. According to the EPA, homeowners use two to four times as much water in the summer to keep their lawns green and gardens lush. Oftentimes people end up over watering. The following tips will help keep you from over watering:
- Turn your irrigation system off when rain is in the forecast.
- If your lawn is lush and the grass springs back when stepped on, it doesn't need more water.
- An inexpensive soil moisture sensor can also show the amount of moisture at the lawn's roots and discourage over watering.
- Consider upgrading to a WaterSense labeled irrigation system controller that saves water by automatically monitoring the weather and adjusting the irrigation timing as needed.
- Inspect irrigation systems monthly and check for leaks and broken or clogged sprinkler heads. Fix sprinkler heads that are broken or spraying on the sidewalk, street, or driveway.

Spring has sprung and so has the grass. Please be a good neighbor and mow your lawn regularly. When a lawn is neglected, it reflects negatively on the neighborhood and can become a health and safety hazard. Overgrown grass and weeds attract insects and rodents and can provide fuel for fires during dry months. City ordinance requires you to keep your lawn under 10 inches.
