Is the Actual Reality of Virtual Reality in Jeopardy?
Google has reportedly canceled its plans to build a series of Virtual Reality (VR) cameras for motion picture filmmakers.
The project - which would have enabled audiences to take part in an immersive, 360 degree virtual video production - was a joint venture between Google and the IMAX Corporation, the latter of which recently closed two of its seven VR centers.
While feature film projects utilizing VR are still in the works - most notably director John Ogilvie's "Lone Wolf" and John Favreau's "The Lion King" - the news of the abandoned project does throw the future of VR filmmaking into question.
