Friends of the Library Book Sale - on  Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and  Sunday, May 5 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm, where you can fill a bag of books for only $4.00 (Sunday only). The book sale will be in Meeting Rooms A and B at the William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway. The Friends of the Library operate a Friends Shop which has over 4,000 used books for sale.  Please visit the library website,  www.westland.lib.mi.us for a complete list of programming.

Free Comic Book Day at the William P. Faust Public Library - on Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Stop by the library to pick up your FREE comic book! All ages welcome, while supplies last. Please visit the library website, www.westland.lib.mi.us for a complete list of programming.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is providing free round-trip transportation from the William P. Faust Public Library to the DIA - on Saturday, May 4. The bus will leave the library parking lot at 10:30 am and depart the DIA at 3:30 pm to return to the library. There is free admission to the DIA, but any meals and special exhibit fees are not provided. Registration is required. Please contact the library at 734-326-6123 for more information or to register.

William P. Faust Public Library 8th Annual Community Shred Event - on Saturday, May 4 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. Shred Corp. will be in the parking lot near the Veterans Memorial Garden to take up to 5 boxes of paper documentation to be shredded (no plastic bags, please). The WYAA Opening Day/Play Ball event - on  Saturday, May 4  at 1:00 pm at the Wayne Ford Civic League, 1661 North Wayne Road. Approximately 125 children between the ages of 3 and 10 will kick off their 2019 baseball season with multiple games being played throughout the day. The event will also feature police and fire vehicles, a DJ, the Michigan National Guard and their blow up obstacle course, as well as food and drinks. This event is part of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) continued support of Major League Baseball's (MLB) "Play Ball Summer" initiative, which focuses on the fun nature of baseball and encourages an active lifestyle for kids in all communities. During the summer, Mayors are implementing the initiative throughout cities with the goal of strengthening the connection of communities with the National Pastime.

The Wayne Westland Figure Skating Club Along with the Mike Modano Figure Skating Program proudly presents 2019 Ice Show, Wonders of the World - on  Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 pm and  Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 pm. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and 4-17 years old and $9 for seniors. This show will be at Mike Modano Ice Arena, 6210 Wildwood.

  • The Westland City Council will hold a Study Session on Monday, May 6 at 6:00 pm regarding State Revolving Fund project plan for the upcoming Rouge Valley Sewage Disposal System Long Term Corrective Action Plan and its financial impact on the City of Westland. Westland Historic Village Park presents MotorCities National Heritage Area historical lecture - on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00 pm. This event takes place at 857 North Wayne Road. The Westland Rotary along with the City of Westland and the Norwayne Community Citizens Council presents Family Resource Fair - on May 8 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. This event is taking place at Jefferson Barns Community, 32150 Dorsey. Resources include housing, health care, counseling, food services, youth programs, senior services, summer camps, prevention programs, prenatal care, nutrition education, utility assistance and many more! Wild About Youth Works! - on Thursday, May 9 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Westland City Hall, 36300 Warren Road. Wild About Youth Works!  is an employment opportunity that also includes financial literacy and dressing for success training that will benefit you today and for the rest of your adult life.  This is an initiative of Westland Mayor William R. Wild, in partnership with the Wayne-Westland Community School District, Fifth Third Bank and the Westland Youth Assistance Program.  Students and businesses who are interested in participating may contact the Economic Development Department at 734-467-3264. Westland Friendship Center Euchre Tournament - on Friday, May 10 at 12:30 pm at 1119 North Newburgh Road. Open to the public (50 years and older). The cost is $10 per person, payable the day of the tournament. Pizza, popcorn and soft drinks are included. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and a euchre pot. The Arts Center for Enlightenment is pleased to present Meditations on Silence, an exhibition of artwork that explores the theme of silence, with interpretations ranging from somber to energetic. Meditations on Silence will be presented in the Westland City Hall Gallery, 36300 Warren Road from May 6 through May 30 with an opening reception on Friday, May 10 from 4:00-7:00 pm. The exhibition features work that dispels the notion that silence is stagnant. Friday Night Movie at Westland Library - on Friday, May 10 at 6:15 pm at the William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway, in Meeting Rooms A and B for Bohemian Rhapsody. Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center is hosting Be Proud! Be Responsible Workshop - on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at 32150 Dorsey Street. This workshop is open to youths between the ages of 12 & 18. FREE snacks, lunch and a prize will be provided to all participants. Join us for a fun and interactive workshop. Mother's Day Drop-In Craft at the William P. Faust Public Library - on Saturday, May 11 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Free for all ages - no registration required. Make a fun gift and card to surprise mom (or another special lady) on Mother's Day. No Moms Allowed! The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.
