Message from Pastor Ele
Christ is Risen! Alleluia!
May 1, 2019
What questions are you asking about that?
We reviewed last Sunday that Thomas wanted to test the evidence of Jesus’ physical nature after the resurrection. This week, our Gospel text draws us into another meal with Jesus. This time we are led to presume that Jesus himself was the
chef du jour!
The presence of a charcoal fire and bread besides are small points of detail that someone remembered of that morning. Even the abundance of fresh fish drawn in by the disciples on command of Jesus added a powerful reminder that the scene is to be understood as a real-time event. All this ... in answer to their questions of incredulity: Is he real? Or are we imagining that his words to us are true? Every appearance of Jesus was supporting evidence to imprint his “real-ness” into their consciousness.
This summer, as we journey into the teachings of Friar Richard Rohr,
we will find that he is a master questioner. As a student of Francis of Assisi (whose question is an all-time classic—
Who are you God? And Who am I?
—), Rohr leads us patiently into the mindset of the seeker; one who learns because fearlessly asking questions of our faith puts us on the threshold of the answers that impact our lives. (See article below for more on this class.)

Adult Education Study Coming in June - Preview THIS SUNDAY at 9:30 am!
* Discussions on the writings of spiritual writer and Franciscan Friar Richard Rohr - presented by Stephen Blackmore
How do we grow spiritually? There are many paths to spiritual growth. One way Jesus demonstrated was questioning the conventional wisdom of his day. Through interactions, parables and teachings, he tried to show the people and even the religious leaders of the time that they had too narrow an understanding of who God was, who they were in relationship to God, and how God wanted us to behave towards our neighbors, or even who our neighbors were in the first place.
Richard Rohr is a Franciscan monk who writes extensively about spirituality. We will use some of Richard's daily meditations to explore some of the same issues Jesus addressed: Who is God? What is God really like? How do we fit into God's plan? And how are we to relate to our fellow human beings (neighbors)? Buckle up, this could be a surprising and bumpy ride as Richard has some interesting and unusual perspectives on faith, God, the church and other issues.
