April 2019

 Monthly Highlights & Happenings
See what steps we've been taking towards having a healthier community!
Doctors day!

Thank you for the sacrifices you make on a daily basis (that often go unnoticed) and for the high-quality and compassionate care you provide to our community. Thank you for your willingness to be the world’s Good Samaritans. Your knowledge and dedication make all our lives better.

We love our interns
"I like interning for CHA because they are an organization that has made an investment in helping those who are underinsured. Without CHA, I would’ve never known about the high rates of Colorectal cancer within our population. I was able to gain personal and professional growth through my internship at CHA"

-Julianne R

Healthy Living Program + yoga
We are happy to announce our partnership with Urban Lotus Project, a nonprofit offering yoga and meditation classes to at risk and underserved youth. On April 7th, the Healthy Living Program group began their class with a meditation and yoga session facilitated by Urban Lotus Project. The class introduced the kids and their families in the Healthy Living program to these health promoting practices and supported the concepts covered in class.

We are so grateful to have such amazing community partners!

Mindful Health Support for At-Risk Populations
Our Chief Strategy Officer, Oscar Delgado, spoke on the “Mindful Health Support for At-Risk Populations” panel at the Northern Nevada Diversity Summit. It was such an amazing panel! It served as a great opportunity to discuss the bridges related to access to mental health, recreational, and wellness programs within the community.
Wellness Frontiers Award
We are so honored that the Healthcare Leadership Council presented the Wellness Frontiers Award to us for our Healthy Living Program. Senator Jacky Rosen joined in congratulating us and all of our community partners on the impressive success we have seen regarding pediatric obesity. This program is an excellent example of how whole communities can be changed with the right approach and collaborations.

Congratulations to the team for all the hard work!
New Patient Portal
Community Health Alliance recently opened a NEW PATIENT PORTAL!

The patient portal is a secure website that gives patients convenient 24-hour access to their personal health information.

Patients should ask their provider for details or sign up at their next appointment at any of our six health centers. The portal helps patients better manage their healthcare needs.
  21st Annual Silver Syringe Awards
We are honored to have received not one but 3 Silver Healthy People 2020 Awards from Immunize Nevada. What does this mean? The Healthy People 2020 Awards  are based on the Immunization and Infectious Diseases Leading Health Indicators for high immunization rates .

Thank you staff for making Nevada a healthier place!
New Bill Would Expand Dental Coverage For Diabetic Nevadans
We are excited to be recognized for our contribution to improving public health from the Nevada Public Health Training Center and the School of Community Health Sciences. We had the privilege of being recognized alongside many of our community partners who are making strides in improving the health of our population in Northern Nevada and beyond. We are excited about the growing efforts to tackle the most pressing public health challenges and will continue our commitment to improving the health of our community.
Save the date
C.H.A. is hosting its eighth annual Wine & Ribs fundraiser on Saturday, August 24 at 5 p.m. at The California Building at Idlewild Park in Reno. Proceeds will benefit low-income and uninsured northern Nevadans to aid in the mission of CHA to provide quality, affordable, comprehensive health services to all.

Wine & Ribs will feature offerings from Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que, a salad bar, 25 wine varietals from Whispering Vine Wine Co., and live entertainment. Returning this year will be a silent auction featuring unique experiences.

Last year, proceeds supported CHA’s Patient’s Need Fund, we are about to build a pharmacy in our Sparks Health Center on Oddie Blvd to improve patient access to vital medications. Also, we have made huge strides in taking our Healthy Living (formerly Weight) Program out into the community. All of Washoe County will soon be adapting the 5-2-1-0 concepts for healthier living!
