First Annual Sun Prairie B.E.A.M. Awards

The first ever B.E.A.M Awards event was held on Sunday, April 28th at the Sun Prairie Performing Arts Center.

The Sun Prairie B.E.A.M (Black Excellence Achievement Makers)  Awards  honored and recognized our students who are making achievements in multiple ways. Sun Prairie School District staff, students, families and community attended this event to embrace our children of color, specifically our Black children.

Marilyn Ruffin, School Board member and the event coordinator said, "The effort of this event was to counter the negative behaviors or attitudes often assigned to our Black students by "shining a beaming light" on the positive examples and achievements of our racially diverse students and community. The B.E.A.M awards tells a story that counters the one told in the media of " those kids " with " behavior problems " and " uninvolved parents " that are seen by some as having a negative impact on our community."

Over 150 students were acknowledged for their achievements in the following five Modeling Black Excellence  categories:
  • Extensive Growth
  • Peer Leadership
  • Excellence in Academics
  • Teamwork
  • Responsibility
Thank you to everyone who attended this event, and congratulations to the award recipients.

Your Input is Important to our Goal of Continued Improvement!

We are conducting a survey to gather feedback on your school experiences.
Please,  CHECK YOUR EMAIL to find the link and your specific access number. The survey access number will not identify you; it simply links you to the survey. To ensure data integrity, each parent survey invitation/l ink code can only be used once.  As such, you must access the survey through your email invitation, not a forwarded email or link. The email will be from School Perceptions, LLC , an independent Wisconsin-based firm with expertise in conducting school surveys, to collect this data and ensure anonymity.

Westside's Afterschool Program Visited Dane County Humane Society!

The Community School's Westside after school program visited the Dane County Humane Society in April. They collected pet food and supplies for the past two months which they delivered in person. They also took a tour and learned about the DCHS and of course,  got to have some snuggle time with animal friends waiting to be adopted. Huge thanks to our fellow SPASD schools who helped with our pet food supply collection. Together, we made a huge difference in the lives of the shelter animals!

Guest Speaker, Mr. Kujabi at CHUMS

Students  at Cardinal Heights learned about culture in Gambia from guest speaker Mr. Kujabi, a member of our SPASD Digital Learning and Technology Team. His captivating stories of growing up in this small west African nation touch on several elements of culture, including education, religion, dance, and food.
