GROWING IN WISDOM & GRACE
Read to Succeed
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. In cities and towns across America, teachers, teenagers, librarians, politicians, actors, athletes, parents, grandparents, and others develop NEA's Read Across America activities to bring reading excitement to children of all ages. Students in grades PK3-5 had a lot of fun ce lebrating Read Across America throughout the month of March!

Primary students in grades PK3-2nd enjoyed visits fro m Mystery Readers, including Miss Georgia 2017 Alyssa Beasley, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts Education Program Manager Rick McKnight, and Diocese of Savannah Office of Catholic Schools Superintendent Michelle Kroll. They also dressed up as their favorite book characters and participated in Round Robin Reading with their peers. Each primary grade put on a special Readers' Theatre performance on March 22nd and celebrated their efforts to read 656 books in March!

St. Anne-Pacelli 3rd-5th graders and their teachers celebrated and promoted reading with a Harry Potter themed month of activities. Students were sorted into houses and worked to earn points by completing special reading activities and participating in our Outreach Item of the Month campaign. After much reading, AR test taking, and donating to Outreach we have a House Cup Winner in Mercy Hall: Gryffindor wins with 5,240 points! Hufflepuff came in 2nd place with 5,127 points; Ravenclaw earned 3rd place with 5,084 points; and  4th place went to Slytherin with 4,829 points. This was a very tight competition!  Teachers decorated Mercy Hall with red streamers, symbolizing a Gryffindor win, to surprise students at the end of the school day on March 22nd. Students from the Gryffindor team received a homework pass from their Language Arts teacher and a pizza party!

Go2Teach Program
Go2Teach
Four of our high school students - Zach Drexler, Elizabeth Landeche, Ian Poole, and McCartney Witsell - are participating in Columbus State University's innovative Go2Teach program. This career exploration program allows high school students who are interested in the field of education to learn more about being a teacher and the steps they would need to take to enter the teaching profession. This past week, the students participated in an experiential program at Columbus Stat e University during which they went through mini classes led by College of Education students, discussed challenges teachers face, toured the CSU Main Campus and the College of Education at the Riverpark campus downtown, and ate lunch in the campus cafe. Through the program, the students have also been able to explore the undergraduate programs that they would pursue as education students and the classes they would take based on their area of specialization. Maybe one of these students will teach your child one day!

Student Artwork Helps in the Effort to Eliminate Childhood Hunger
Empty Bowl 2018
This year, the St. Anne-Pacelli High School Art Department partnered with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department for "The Empty Bowl Brunch" benefiting the Kids Café program of Feeding the Valley Food Bank. This program provides 6,225 hot, nutritional meals and snacks every week day to low-income children at more than 12 locations in Columbus and Phenix City. In addition to providing hot meals to children, the Kids Café program also offers a safe haven, where under  the supervision of trustworthy staff, a child can get involved in educational, recreational and social activities.  This year's Empty Bowl Brunch was on March 11th at Northside Recreation Center. Those who attended were able to choose a hand painted or created bowl (to keep) from among hundreds of uniquely made pieces and enjoyed "homemade" style soups, breads, desserts and drinks during the event. One hundred percent of the proceeds went to the Kids Café.
