President's Message

We're not even halfway through 2019, and it's already been a jam-packed year!

Breaking News: The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee will hold the first "Ban Asbestos Now: Taking Action to Save Lives and Livelihoods" legislative hearing for the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2019 (ARBAN) on May 8.

ACTION: If your organization, association, or trade union would like to support ARBAN, please complete the Google form by May 6.

As excited as we are about the movement of ARBAN, we did recently receive some discouraging news.
Russia and Kazakhstan have the dubious distinction of being the top two asbestos producing countries. They organized another (!) "Chrysotile Protection Day" just after Global Asbestos Awareness Week and before the Rotterdam Convention.

We will be doubling down to advance prevention and policy efforts to end the asbestos man-made disaster.

In April, we celebrated ADAO's 15th anniversary and held our 15th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference in Washington, DC . Over 100 speakers, honorees, and attendees representing 10 countries gathered to connect, share, and collaborate. To kick off the conference, we held our first-ever March for Justice and Remembrance through the nation's capital . During the march, asbestos victims, physicians, and scientists took to the streets to peacefully protest the use of asbestos and support a ban - be sure to check out the photos ! We owe a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to the attendees, speakers, volunteers, and sponsors who made this conference a big success!

Let's continue our great collective activism as we keep fighting to ban asbestos and save lives!
