Russell's Ritings....

Many years ago there was a young lighthouse keeper in New England who married. The couple first had a nice cottage on the mainland where life was good. Then they were transferred to an island where they were the only persons living. The young bride was quite discouraged and at first did not pack her bags. Finally she settled in. He caught a cold which turned into pneumonia. The weekly boat took him back to the mainland for treatment.

Two weeks later boat came back bearing the news that the young husband had died. The last word he had said to his bride was, "Tend the lamp." And she did just that for the next forty years!

We at UMCE are called to tend the lamp of faith in this dark world!

This Sunday the sermon is "Do You Believe Enough?" (John 1:38; Matthew 17:20). I hope to see you here where the folks are friendly!

Blessings,

Russell

GIVING STATEMENTS

Please look for your first quarter 2018 Giving Statement in Fellowship Hall starting this Sunday, April 15. Thank you for your gifts to support UMCE!

DID YOU KNOW?

There are many ways you can support our church besides the Sunday morning offering. Here are just a few:

Birthday Donations
During the month of your birthday make a donation to the church equal to the number of years you have been on this earth (or any number you are comfortable with). Make a birthday donation for your parents, children or best friend

Grocery Card Purchases
Purchase a King Soopers or Safeway reloadable gift card at the church. Use it and keep reloading it to buy your groceries and gasoline at King Soopers or Safeway. Buy the grocery cards for family members, friends, service providers, etc. Encourage them tot he reload the cards and use them to purchase their groceries and gasoline. The church makes 5% on grocery card purchases.

Vehicle Donation
Donate your used vehicle to the church. We have a contract with an organization which sells used vehicles. They give a portion of the sales price to our church.

IRA Rollovers to Benefit the Church
The IRA rollover is a simple and easy way to grow God's kingdom.  If you are 70½, you may rollover up to $100,000 from your IRA to the church without paying any federal income tax on your gift. Your gift to the church from your IRA will qualify for your 2018 required minimum distribution (RMD).  To make an IRA rollover gift in 2018, simply contact your custodian and request that all or  part of your required minimum distribution  (RMD) be transferred to the church. For more information, visit rm-umf.org or contact the United Methodist Foundation at 303-778-6370.

All of these donations provided added benefit to our church. Thank you for your support!

CHRISTENING AND DIAPER SHOWER
Christening at the 10:30 Service with
Diaper Shower and Cake After the Service

This Mother's Day we will be celebrating the christening of a new little member,  Scarlet Begonia Brady, daughter of Bernie and Meredith and sister Stella.  Cake and refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall after the 10:30 service to welcome our newest little one and her family.

We would also like to make this a diaper shower! So if you would like to take part we ask that you bring a package of disposal diapers (size 2-5) as your gift to the Brady family.  Diapers may be left in the Fellowship Hall ahead of time. No wrapping is needed. You may add a card or you can remain anonymous. This is meant to be easy on everyone but it will be a big help to the Brady family!

We are starting a new UMCE tradition, and we hope you will join in. We will be doing this for any of our members starting or adding to their family. Thank you!

LOVING AND EFFECTIVE PARENTING AND GRAND PARENTING
Facilitators: The Rev. Russell Fletcher and Diane Fletcher

He will lead this session "from the heart," accompanied by his loving and supportive wife and penultimate mother and grandmother, Diane.

Sunday, April 22 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 4)
RICH MAN POOR MAN (LUKE 16: 19-31)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
Our prayers differ in results. One man got nothing, the other got something. The church needs to hear this parable today to get more from our prayers. This story teaches us to be compassionate through sharing.
