A team of three MBA students from the University of South Alabama took the top spot in a Master’s level business case competition, beating out students from Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina, and Florida.

Message from the Dean
In the classic musical  Camelot , Julie Andrews sang, “It’s May, the lusty month of May…that holiday”. Although we are not quite there, it is close enough to see. Of course, we needed to weather (more on that later) April to get here. To say that April has been at the same time rewarding and frustrating is an understatement.

Student Spotlight: Sabrina Garrett
Hello! My name is Sabrina Garrett and I am from Pelham, AL, just 20 minutes south of Birmingham. I am a senior accounting major, but am not actually studying on campus right now. Currently, I am working at an accounting firm, KPMG, in New Orleans, LA as an Audit Intern and receiving class credit for my experience.

Alumni Spotligh t: Gabrielle Vargas
Originally Colombia, South America, Gabriela Vargas,  grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. With family scattered throughout different countries, Vargas developed a love of traveling and learning about different cultures. Her passion is, “ to help students like myself achieve things that they never thought were in their reach.  

2019 Coastal Venture Competiton
The University of South Alabama Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) hosted the Coastal Venture and High School Pitch Competition on Friday, April 12, 2019. This was especially unique as it was the first-year high schools students were eligible to compete.

Faculty Accomplishments
Dr. Reid Cummings, along with co-authors John Martinez and Michael Mills, won a Best Paper Award for, “The Increasing Trend in Commercial Real Estate Lending by Community Banks: The Role of Deliberate Risk-Taking, 2001-2017,” presented at the Academy of Business Research

Student Snapshots
After the annual Scholars Night was canceled due to weather, MCOB students donated floral center pieces to USA Children's & Women's Hospital. The hospital gave the flowers to mothers who had just given birth to brand new babies.
