Walnut Creek, April 2, 2018 - Meals on Wheels Diablo Region, formerly Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services, today opened its doors sporting a new name, new logo, and renewed purpose to serve the 240,000+ seniors of Contra Costa County. The rebrand coincides with the organization's 50 th anniversary, which will be celebrated with a Gala at the Blackhawk Museums on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

According to Elaine Clark, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region's CEO, the change in brand reflects the change in the organization's purpose. "We're not your grandmother's Meals on Wheels," she says, pointing out that the organization does much more than deliver meals within a small geographic location. "We cover so much more ground now, both geographically and in terms of services," she says. "Today, we're closely aligned with the national senior advocacy movement, and continue to coordinate efforts with local and national partners to do whatever we can so that seniors can live independently and with dignity in their homes for as long as possible."

Clark says the new name and logo, accompanied by a new website and new print and downloadable materials, signal the organization's transformation while continuing to draw on its history. "We chose a name that reflects our new identity while retaining the powerful recognition that the Meals on Wheels brand provides," she says. Clark also says that the rebrand is meant to communicate the organization's values to younger generations. "We hope to create a swell of interest among young people who understand that the foundation we're laying today will pave the way for the care they'll receive when they reach their senior years," she says.

Meals on Wheels Diablo Region cordially invites the community to celebrate its rebirth and 50 th Anniversary by attending the upcoming May 12 th Gala, slated to run from 6pm to 10pm at the Blackhawk Museums in Danville. "We'll have a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6:00, with welcome glasses of champagne until 6:30," Clark says. "There are still tickets available; I encourage people to visit our website or call us to purchase a table, buy tickets, or donate."

Despite the celebration, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region still relies heavily on donations to make ends meet, especially due to proposed cuts in the national budget. "Although we're throwing a party, we don't want people to forget that their generous donations are critical to helping us address the challenges our aging population face: isolation, loneliness, falling, poor nutrition, a lack of social support-these are, at times, life and death issues," Clark says. "And considering that a third of our budget relies on donations, we can never stop talking about the need for people to pitch in."
