Priest-In-Charge's Report for May

Christ is Risen!
He is truly Risen!

I write this article between the two services of Easter Day. We have already celebrated moving from darkness in to light; from slavery into freedom; from death into life at the Easter Vigil. A special blessing was to baptize Kate Hicks and welcome her more fully into our Trinity family. And we will continue the celebration at the 10.30 service.   But wait! ... there's more.

We have a full 50 days of celebration of new life during this Easter season.   And it is beginning to seem worth celebrating.   The long rainy season is drawing to an end. We give thanks for the rain, even as we fuss about trimming the weeds that they brought. Most of us seem to be over the various illnesses that have been floating around and it seems good to get out and celebrate.

During Holy Week we saw the human drama unfold with religious and secular authorities vying for power and prestige and trying to control what life ought to look like. Not much has changed in roughly 2000 years. That dynamic is still in play. The triumph of life over death as Jesus arose from the grave was, and remains, a powerful statement to suggest that we should not get sucked into those dynamics. We hear it year by year, but somehow, we continue to get sucked into that dynamic time and again. The triumph of life over death shows us a new way of living. We cannot not do it by will power, but need to trust in the Resurrected Christ to transform our lives so that do live a new life, dying to our old selves and rising in new life.

It is my hope that we will continue (or begin) living a transformed life during this Easter season. I intend to start offering some short-term classes in aspects of our life in the church (introduction to the Episcopal Church, the prayer book, daily prayers, and more) and would like to hear from all of you as to what type of formation or training would suit you best, and what time of day works for classes.

As this newsletter is sent out, I will be returning with Becky from a short holiday to visit my mother (near Wilmington Delaware) and our son and daughter-in-law in New York City. It is a fitting time to go visit as we celebrate new life in the seasons along with catching up with the familiar.

Have a blessed Eastertide.

Pax et Bonum,
Paul +
