Support Students During Summer Break
Over the summer, students may lose academic skills, commonly known as the "summer slide." By fifth grade, summer slide can leave low-income students up to three years behind. Studies show that reading six books during the summer may keep a struggling reader from regressing. Westchester UU congregations have partnered with @DaymakerGiving to donate books to children in need with a simple click. Help turn the summer slide into the summer swing - visit daymaker.com/g/westchesterUU.

Share the Plate for May: WCC Student Aid Programs
We donate half our non-pledge collection this month to programs that support low-income college students at Westchester Community College (WCC). To help these students overcome emergency hardships that could compromise their enrollment, WCC established an Emergency Transportation Fund to provide free metro or bus passes when needed, and an Emergency Food Pantry to support students with food insecurity. In 2017-18, the funds distributed $4,500 worth of transportation passes, and supplied over 1,000 students and their families with healthy foods. We plan to raise additional funds for these programs again in October.
