West Shore Drive to close April 10
West Shore Drive, between Hankins and Sain Creek roads, will close April 10 for bridge repairs.
The road closure is scheduled through May 8, but could be extended through June 9 to include a planned road settlement repair, pending Washington County Board of Commissioners' approval. The Hagg Lake Trail will also be closed periodically at the Sain Creek and Scoggins Creek bridges and between the Bobcat Cove and Walnut Grove access points during construction.
Work on West Shore Drive will continue through the summer as part of the Hagg Lake Perimeter Roads project. Work on Scott Hill Road and the Scoggins Creek Bridge will result in two additional closures, which have yet to be scheduled. Construction is expected to be completed by Oct. 1.
Work includes:
  • Stabilizing an active landslide north of Scott Hill Road
  • Repairing road settlement between Hankins and Sain Creek roads
  • Replacing three culverts
  • Repairs to Scoggins Creek and Sain Creek bridges
  • Overlaying West Shore Drive
  • Upgrading West Shore Drive guardrail
These projects are a continuation of a four-year program to improve the perimeter roads around Scoggins Valley Park and Henry Hagg Lake. Washington County is working in conjunction with Federal Lands Division of the Federal Highway Administration on stabilizing five active landslides, replacing six culverts, upgrading guardrails and paving Scoggins Valley Road and West Shore Drive.
The total cost of repairing Scoggins Valley Road and West Shore Drive is estimated at $20.3 million. The Federal Lands Access Program ( FLAP) is funding $9.8 million. The remaining $10.5 million cost is shared between the Road Fund (gas taxes) and the Washington County Department of Support ServicesHagg Lake Perimeter Roads project
