Fairmont Garden Club
The Fairmont Garden Club, which was originated two years ago by 6th grade student Ara M., was recognized for the fantastic work the students did this year planting flowers in an area of Heritage Park. In a ceremony last week, the City of Tustin's mayor, commissioners, and director of parks and recreation appreciated the fantastic work the students had done and presented the students with individual certificates of appreciation. The ceremony was wonderful, and the attending students and parents were very proud of their achievements.

We want to give a big shout out to Ara for creating and running this club. The students have felt a proud sense of accomplishment for all of their hard work. We are so proud of you all! Go Eagles!

Straw Rockets
10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 ---   BLAST OFF! Astronauts from the preschool, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten classes made and flew straw rockets.

Making straw rockets is great way to explore science. S.T.E.A.M., an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math started as simply S.T.E.M., without the A for art. This S.T.E.A.M. project involves physics, space, wind currents, things that fly, and art.

The students loved seeing how far they could get their straw rockets to go and had a blast trying them out at all different angles ---   into the wind, into crosswinds, with the wind, high and low launches, and so on and so forth.

We'd like to extend a big thank you to our art teacher, Ms. DeVane, for creating fun hands-on projects for our kids to enjoy!

Husky Highlight
Students Create Masterpieces Out of Recycled Materials

Congratulations to our Fairmont Prep General Art students who took home first-, second-, and third-place awards for the high school category at the 10th annual Trash ARTist Challenge Expo on May 12. The purpose of the challenge is to recognize students' artistic reuse of recycled materials to promote the message of creative conservation and sustainability that relates to our lives today. The judges and organizers of the event were especially impressed with the social messages and thought that went into our student artwork.

The first-place award went to Nhi Pham, Vi Truong, Shucheng Zheng, and Yunru Peng for "Flying House" about having a safe place for children who face abuse all around the world. The second-place award went to Jingjing Zhang, Madison Calderon, Kofi Aboagye, and Justin Liu for "Am I Next?" which expresses concern for the issue of the gun violence and school shootings happening in the U.S. today. The third-place award went to Elenore Meagher, Audrey Kartika, Alessandro Furlong, and Milan Robinson for "Rubbish En Vogue," which challenges us to think more deeply about the public ideals regarding beauty.

Their projects, along with five other projects created by Fairmont Prep students, will be on display at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim until Monday, May 28. You will receive free admission if you inform the museum that you are from Fairmont and want to see the trash art entries.

Congrats to all of the artists who participated! Mrs. Soodak and all of us at Fairmont Prep are so proud of all of your creativity and teamwork!
