GGUSD Launches its Second Computer Science Academy
At its Open House last week, Fitz Intermediate School announced to parents and students that it will open next year as the new Fitz Computer Science Academy. This is the district's second Computer Science Academy, offered in collaboration with Code to the Future! 
Gilbert Elementary Teacher Receives Special Award
Congratulations to Gilbert Elementary Teacher Dawn Floyd for winning the OCDE Outstanding PAL (Peer Assistance Leadership) Advisor Award for all she does to support Gilbert students and run an outstanding student leadership program.
High Honors for Hare High School
This week, representatives from OCDE surprised Hare High School teacher Tam Do with the 2019 Advisor of Excellence award. Mr. Do was celebrated for his dedication as an advisor for the Hare leadership class and the work that they do alongside the Friday Night Live program.
Last week, Hare High School was honored with the CCEA/CDE Model Continuation High School Award at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Hare was one of 31 high schools recognized for the staff’s passion and dedication to their students by meeting their academic and socio-emotional needs.

Sharing GGUSD Pride
Hundreds of GGUSD students, families, and staff from Clinton, Eisenhower, Riverdale, Doig, and Santiago participated in a Neighborhood Canvas event last week to share their school pride with the community. Students shared about exceptional programs and awards, including Clinton's coding and robotics opportunities, Eisenhower's new Innovation Lab, Riverdale's title as a 2018 Honor Roll School, Doig's National AVID Demonstration School status, and Santiago High School's new Early College program.

Mariner Brain Brawl Champions
GO MARINERS: Pacifica High School's NJROTC placed 7th out of 24 teams at the 2019 NJROTC Brain Brawl National Championships held earlier this month at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Florida. Pacifica placed above 47 out of 50 states and has competed at the state level for 12 years and the national level three times in the last ten years. Congrats to these outstanding cadets and GGUSD scholars! 
Hazard Moves Full STEAM Ahead
Hazard Elementary School recently hosted a Family STEAM Night where students and parents joined together to engage in fun coding and robotics projects. Parents and students love the school's STEAM and Innovation Lab which provides a creative space for our 21st century learners.  #GGUSDPride
GGUSD AVID Students Earn Top Scholarships
Twenty-two AVID seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) were awarded more than $536,000 in college scholarships during the 2019 AVID Senior Standout Recognition & Scholarship Presentation hosted on April 24 by the Orange County Department of Education. The event also recognizes one impressive Senior Standout from each high school from AVID programs across Orange County.
New 1:1 iPads at Sunnyside
Next year, Sunnyside Elementary students and staff are excited to embrace the school's new one to one iPad program which will enhance student learning. Sunnyside had the unique opportunity to purchase brand new iPads for every student. Their staff's focus will be to emphasize creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills in alignment with 21st Century learning.
Connecting with Clubs at Violette

It has been a busy year on Violette’s newly modernized campus! After-school programs have kept students connected, busy, and learning. College and Career Readiness Program Mentors have provided academic and socio-emotional support to all 6th graders. The school's Drama Club, led by TK/Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Rodriguez and supported by mentors, meets twice a week after school in preparation for their production in May. They will be performing a bilingual adaptation of Latino folk tales focusing on taking pride in one’s identity. The Spanish Club, a heritage language program offered to upper grade students, also meets twice weekly. Sra. Guzman, works with students to increase pride in their Latino heritage. GGUSD Partners Honored with Special Music at Community Dinner
Last week, the Garden Grove School Administrators Association hosted its "Leading with Heart" Community Dinner to thank our wonderful community partners for all they do to support our schools. Our guests were treated to dinner and wonderful music by Bolsa Grande High School pianists, Fitz Concert Band, Zeyen Elementary Singers, Folklorico de Santiago, and the Bolsa Grande Jazz Band. Our students wowed guests with their impressive musical talents!
Registration is Open for Preschool
Registration is now open for Garden Grove Unified School District’s high quality preschool programs. Enroll today for the 2019-2020 school year for one of the following preschool programs:


  • Brand new affordable full-day preschool at the Skylark Campus (offered at 11250 Mac Murray St., Garden Grove)

The new Skylark fee-based Preschool will have highly-trained credentialed teachers who provide students with a warm and caring preschool experience. The preschool will offer enrichment activities in dual language, technology, science, engineering, arts, math, and more. The full-day, fee-based program will provide the same exceptional educational curriculum offered in our half-day state preschool program, with opportunities for before and after school care. 

Children born between 12/3/2014 and 12/1/2016 are age eligible for our program. Space is limited for our 3-year-old classes for students born between 12/3/2015 and 09/1/2016.
