Welcome to the first newsletter of the UNCW SBTDC! The goal of our Center is simple: to empower business owners and entrepreneurs to make businesses in southeast NC more competitive and more profitable. In 2017, our business counselors and specialists in government procurement, international trade, and research commercialization had the pleasure of assisting 354 for-profit existing and pre-venture
businesses in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, Onslow, Pender, and New Hanover counties. Just last year, we helped clients to create and retain 470 jobs, obtain $13 million in capital, and increase sales by $19 million.

IS IT TIME TO SCHEDULE YOUR ANNUAL BUSINESS CHECK UP?
|
How is your business performing financially? SBTDC Business Counselors have access to a variety of tools to help small business owners make decisions to improve the performance of their businesses. The SBTDC partnered with Sageworks to utilize their high-powered software, ProfitCents®, to give NC businesses a quick, no-cost analysis of their finances. SBTDC Counselors can then help turn that knowledge into better business decisions. Some examples of what can be learned from this analysis:
-
Key business ratios for assessing your business' performance.
-
An evaluation of current results compared to previous years.
-
Real-time comparisons of your results with others in your industry.
In business, knowledge is power. Identify weaknesses and opportunities that exist in your liquidity, sales, and profit margin ratios and design strategies to save and make more money today.

SBTDC and
Swain Center
have partnered to bring NASBITE's Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) training to Wilmington on May 21-22, 2018. The CGBP credential confirms knowledge in international trade and assures that employees are able to professionally practice worldwide in today's competitive environment. The SBTDC facilitators are CGBP-credentialed and are from our international trade program, so have expertise in this area. Facilitators take an active learning approach that includes case studies, in-baskets, and sidebars. For more information and to register, please visit

We launched a new service in late 2017 with the help of a UNCW Marketing Intern to perform a high-level snapshot of either social media or ecommerce/website presence and make suggestions for improvement.
