Montgomery to Celebrate Trails Day
Join the Fun Saturday June 2nd
|
Montgomery Township invites you to its first "Trails Day" event on Saturday June 2nd from Noon to 3 PM. An afternoon of fun and healthy
outdoor activities for all ages is planned, with opportunities to explore some of Montgomery's 37 miles of outstanding trails. The free programs are based at Mill Pond Park, 29 Mill Pond Road, Belle Mead. (Arboretum tour meets at nearby Montgomery Veterans Park). "Montgomery Township is unique in having preserved 37 percent of its land area in some form of open space. Over many years, the Township has built an amazing network of trails too," said Mayor Mark Conforti. "We want to spread the word that these beautiful open spaces are available to the public for their enjoyment; providing fresh air, exercise, nature appreciation, or just a mental break from the hectic pace of everyday life." You can choose from among several activities starting at noon:
ARBORETUM STROLL 12:00 - 1:30 PM
Discover the hidden gem of the Montgomery Arboretum of Native Flora with a guided, leisurely walk along a 1-mile paved path. Local experts Larry Koplik & Sarah Roberts will share how native trees and plants can be utilized in your home landscape. This event meets at Arboretum entrance near the pavilion at lower parking lot of Montgomery Veterans Memorial Park (GPS address: 235 Harlingen Road, Belle Mead).
FUN RIDE WITH MTPD BIKE PATROL 12:30 - 1:30 PM
Join MTPD bike officers for a fun and easy bike ride along a 1-mile paved loop at Mill Pond Park including a short session on bike safety. Training wheels, balance bikes & scooters are also welcome. Remember your helmets!
EXPLORER TRAIL - BIKE or HIKE - 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Take part in a guided group of bikers or walkers to explore the Pike Brook watershed flora and fauna. Meeting at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion, the first stop is at the historic Opies Mill Pond Bridge, continue onto the boardwalk following the Pike Brook. Enjoy beautiful views of the historic Campbell Farm and bird watching with local guides at the Mill Pond Farm. Or explore on your own with a
map
or self-guided tour you can view on your mobile device - make a note of

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water. A healthy, kid-friendly snack demo and samples will be available at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion. Free hot dogs and veggie dogs will be available at the Mill Pond Park concession stand.
Everyone is encouraged to first stop by opening day of the Montgomery Farmers Market at the Village Shopper Parking Lot (Rt. 206, across from Shop Rite) from 9 am-1 pm. This market encourages healthy eating choices and supports local agriculture. The Montgomery Farmers Market is run by the volunteer non-profit "Montgomery Friends of Open Space" which helps keep our farmers farming and supports local open space preservation efforts.
