Upcoming Programs for Adults
Adult Coloring
Tuesday, March 20th, 6-7:30

Some say that coloring is a new alternative to meditation. Come to unwind, while expressing your creativity! Adult coloring books offer a variety of designs, often intricate, just waiting to get lost in. Both colored pencils and fine tipped markers will be available, along with a wide variety of coloring books to choose pages from.
 
No registration needed. Stop by at any point between 6pm and 7:30pm.
History of Hat Making
Wednesday, March 21st, 1-2:30

Join Ms. Mackie Rondon for a fascinating slide presentation and lecture on the history of hat making. Topics covered will include hat manufacturing in Beacon, trends in hat styles, materials used and their effect on the environment, and more.

Networking 101
Thursday, March 22nd, 6-7:30pm

Join experienced sales and marketing professional, Emily Lopez, for an informative presentation on networking. Learn how to make and develop contacts and foster long-term relationships. You will also learn why networking is important, networking event etiquette tips, and creating a plan to succeed. Not to be missed!
Art+Feminism
Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
Saturday, March 24th, 11am-3pm

Just in time for Women's History Month!
In collaboration with Art+Feminism, Beacon's first Wikipedia Edit-a-thon will take place at the Howland Public Library on March 24th from 11am to 3pm. This all-day event is designed to improve coverage of gender, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, and refreshments. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate.

Educational Presentation:
Drug and Alcohol Addiction
Sunday, March 25th, 2-3pm

Join Alison Lewis, local counselor for 25 years, as she presents an informative presentation and power point, helping all of us learn to understand what happens with addiction, and also why addiction naturally becomes destructive over time. A focus will be on new empowerment approaches and alternative ideas for exploring addiction, as well as new neuroscience education.

Presentation will run for roughly 45 minutes followed by questions and answers. Ms. Lewis is a licensed mental health counselor and a certified drug and alcohol counselor.
No registration is required for this free community education program.  
International Film Night
Friday, March 23rd, 7pm

Join us for International Film Night. This month's feature, Queen of Katwe, is from the United States. A true story about how a Ugandan girl's life changes forever when she discovers she has an amazing talent for chess. Stars Lupita Nyong'o. Rated PG 124 minutes. 
 
Admission is free and no registration required. All films shown in their original language with English subtitles (including films in English.) Doors open at 6:30 and film starts promptly at 7:00pm.
Socrates Café
Tuesday, March 27th, 4-5pm

Join moderator, Alan Goldsmith, as he leads a Socrates Café program. Socrates Café are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange thoughtful ideas and experiences while embracing the central theme of Socratizing; the idea that we learn more when we question and question with others.

Ozo Invent-a-Game
Spring-break junior STEM games!
Wednesday, March 28th, 3-5pm

Be a board game inventor! 
Come learn to use and code our favorite mini-robots, Ozobots.Then work with a teams to invent your own Ozobot board game, create the ozo-characters, and show the rest of us how it works.
For children ages 7-11.

Spring Break Family Movie

Friday April 30th, 4-6pm

Students ages 8 and up along with their families or friends are welcome to enjoy this film depiction of the popular book, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. "August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school--until now. He's about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?" Movie Rated: PG
 
Teenscape
for Middle and High School Students
Sketchbook Open Studio
Wednesday, March 23rd 3-5pm

SketchbookStudio is an open space for middle school and high school students to work on sketchbooks, art journals and other drawing projects. All kinds of art materials will be available to use during studio time. Bring your own sketchbook. All skill levels welcome.

Middle and High School students can get together with others who love to play D & D or various card games from Magic to Yugioh Bring your own cards. We'll provide the tables and snacks. New and classic board games also available to play.
