Reflections from Susan Zaballos

I love to garden. I love planting seeds and tending them, seeing the first signs of life poking up through the dirt - little sprouts of green feeding on the sun, water and soil. Because it doesn't rain here in the summer, I have to be mindful to water my garden, keeping it alive, giving it the help it needs. So too, God tends us all. He gives us what we need to thrive because we can't do it on our own. Sometimes we need extra help, and he is there for us, helping us through our struggles and rejoicing with us in our victories. In this Easter season of rebirth, let us all be thankful for God's tender nurturing, helping us to grow in love and compassion.

Peace,
Susan

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ST. STEPHEN'S

Website update

If you need to find the St. Stephen's calendar to find out when you are scheduled to assist in the service, it is no longer on the home page.  You need to click on the blue ribbon at the top of the page under "MEMBERS". Enjoy the new look.  More improvements to come.

Food for thought. . .
April is Military Child Appreciation Month and
Autism Awareness Month.  Stay tuned for more thoughtful voices!

Food for thought. . . an interview with Joseph and Kaylyn
Since this is the last Friday Journal in April, and it is the Month of the Military Child, I interviewed our delightful Eswine siblings - Joseph and Kaylyn.  It's pretty clear that they enjoy being military kids, and for good reason! Here are some of the thoughts they happily shared:

What's it like being a military child?
Joseph: "Good but loud. My dad has a loud voice because he's used to giving orders. Military people have to be loud."

Does your dad wear a uniform to work?
-Yes, it's very light tan and the pants are scratchy.

Why do you like being a military kid?
-I like getting to see and live in different places - we've lived in NY, GA,  and CA

-Living on a military base is great because you see things like, different military vehicles and convoys, and there are lots of kids. When we lived in NY we could see the ocean from our house!

-Getting to do different activities - like in NY we went sledding because of all the snow, but in CA the weather is nice and we can go swimming

-Visiting Grandma and Grandpa when we go on long road trips

-making new friends

What's the hardest part about being a military kid?
-long road trips

What about the churches you've attended?
-The last one had a lot of echo. It was big inside.
-We like being at St. Stephen's because it's small and there's a brunch after church and the people are nice.

Water needed!!

Now that the outside temperatures are rising, the Calero students need to stay hydrated when they are working in the garden.  Please consider donating a case/6pack of water. It's the least we can do! Please drop of your donations in the parish hall.

We need your help

An important part of welcoming members and visitors is the job of our Usher/Greeter team. We also present the oblations (bread & wine) and collect the donations and pledges at communion.

Our team is in need of new recruits and we are hoping you will consider joining us. Information and training will be available after services on Sundays. We serve one Sunday a month and are flexible with availablity.

There is always a way to serve your church and church family and we hope this might be the ministry for you.
Thank you, Ann Little

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?

Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed.  How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us.  The Church provides help in many ways.  If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:

*    there is a Biddings book at the back of the sanctuary where you can write in things before the service starts

*    there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).  Contact Robin, our Deacon, who will initiate that for you

*    there is prayer at the altar every Sunday, where we all join you in the privacy of your need with the Priest

*    there is a kneeling prayer station at the side of the church with candles, prayer book, all available anytime, not just Sundays

*    turn to your neighbors and friends in church to share what's on your heart, ask for support in speaking to God about your needs (and tell them the updates next week!)

*    tell people about your answers to prayer!  and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.

Angel's List !

Please take a moment to check out the Angel's List in the back of the church. If you notice something that needs to be done - big or little, please add it to the list. If you've been an angel and have completed a task, kindly remove it from the list.

Rev. Karen's Kudos to:

-Ann for decorating the parish hall for our Easter Brunch,

-Everyone who brought delicious food for our brunch.

-Robin and Jane for all their help with bulletins throughout Holy Week.

-Joseph and Kaylyn Eswine for coming in for an interview

Editor's Note
Please send any announcements or articles you want to have included, to: jhnltl50@gmail .com, by Thursday, 10am each week.

As many of you know, Ann & I are buying our "dream retirement home", near Whitney and family's new home in Southern California. We will be here until about mid May. We've been at SSitF 33 years, and we will miss our church family very much! If needed, I will continue to edit the Friday Journal, from our new home for a while, using my MacBook. Ideally, if someone could step up sooner, I could pass on what I've learned, to them firsthand, as Fr. Ernie did with me. Please consider it prayerfully. I have enjoyed it, even more than I thought I would!
We love you all, and may God continue to bless St. Stephen's-in-the-Fields,
John and Ann Little
