The dos and don’ts of Instagram Stories: hotel marketing tips
Since Instagram introduced Stories in 2016, the platform has proven to be a successful channel for hotels. We all know that social media has become pay-to-play. And that the visual aesthetic of the Instagram feed is key to ensure you are maximizing organic results.
Instagram Stories allow hotels to post in a much more informal, authentic way – allowing you to share news and updates with your followers in creative ways that help your property stand out from the competition. Read on for our quick list of dos and don’ts for success.
Do: Share authentic, in-real-time content
Show travelers what a day in the life at your hotel property looks like using Instagram Stories. Whether it’s a stunning view or the always popular behind-the-scenes content (like the chef preparing a meal in the kitchen), give guests glimpses of what they can expect at your hotel.

Three No-No Questions on Job Applications in California
California labor laws continue to evolve and the rules about acceptable questions on employment applications are a perfect example. Consider the regulations on asking about gender, pay history and criminal background.

Gender Question
Employers are not allowed to ask directly or indirectly about a person’s sex or gender. So these questions are not permissible on an employment application. If an employer must ask this information for legally required government reporting (such as EEO-1 Reports) it can only be done on a voluntary basis. An employer cannot discriminate against anyone who refuses to share this information.

U.S. Hotels Enjoy Profit Growth, But It Is Becoming Harder to Achieve
brought to you by hotel-online.com
Atlanta – April 29, 2019 – While U.S. hoteliers enjoyed a ninth consecutive year of increasing profits in 2018, it is becoming increasingly difficult for managers to accomplish this task. According to the recently released 2019 edition of Trends ® in the Hotel Industry by CBRE Hotels Americas Research, total operating revenue increased by 2.6 percent in 2018 for the average hotel in its survey sample. Managers were able to limit the growth in operating expenses to 2.8 percent, thus allowing for a 2.3 percent increase in gross operating profits (GOP) at the Trends ® properties. The 2.8 percent growth in expenses is less than the long-run average of 4.0 percent over the past 40 years. However, it is greater than the 1.8 percent average annual growth rate achieved the past two years.

“With revenue growth forecast to slow down in the foreseeable future, owners and operators are beginning to wonder how much more juice is left to squeeze out of their operations,” said R. Mark Woodworth, senior managing director of CBRE Hotels Americas Research.
