  With the Maryland SoccerPlex
A weekly newsletter to keep you informed about EVERYTHING Turf at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
This week we find out what the grounds crew does in the winter time!
You'll never be bored!
There is no real 'offseason' for the Maryland SoccerPlex grounds crew. However, the winter is a slower time due to the fact natural grass will be dormant, but there are still practices and various things that must be done to ensure that when the spring season rolls around we can be sure to have high-quality fields.

Our grounds crew team decrease to just our full-time staff around mid-December once the fields are closed up and growth blankets are put on all the fields. Throughout the winter the grounds team will use the little bit of down time they receive to clean up around the shop, trim trees and clean up landscaping around the park, and service any equipment that may need it. The main task our crew tends to in the winter is snow! They will pre-treat the sidewalks and parking area around the Discovery Sports Center, and if necessary they will help clear the areas of snow as well!
Keep Plugging Along!
In the DC Metro area  our winter has been very sporadic, which has been helpful this year for our crew to be able to get some work in on the fields. When we had the unseasonably warm weather, they were able to trim, aerate, and groom field 10! They continue to watch the weather for any pockets of warm that they might be able to work on another high-use field.

Even though Phil saw his shadow, I think we all know spring will be here before we know and the weekends will be filled with the sounds of cheering from goals and the smell of fresh cut grass!
