"Is Red Dye harmful to Hummingbirds?"
Answer: Yes & No. If your hummingbird food contains artificial dyes, then that can harm your hummingbirds, but if the food is dyed with natural ingredients, then your hummingbirds will have nothing to worry about.
Make sure to read your labels.

Garden To-do List
Spring is in full swing, and it's time to get out in your garden and work those muscles that have been asleep all winter long.
- Apply fertilizer and weed killer to your lawn, after you have mowed your grass twice, usually mid-April to May 1. This is Step 2 in our DIY Lawn Care Program.

Chamberbitter

If you had Chamberbitter Weed in your lawn or flower beds last summer, you should consider applying Fertilome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery mid-April to May 1st to keep it from germinating this year. Chamberbitter Weed looks like a little Mimosa tree. Regular pre-emergent won't take care of it, so you have to apply this extra step. If you are signed up for our DIY Lawn Care Program, this is an optional step, which you may not have paid for in advance.
- Fertilize trees and shrubs if you haven't already.
- Apply Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench to plants in your landscape that typically have insect problems.
- Spray ornamental cherry trees, Japanese maples and dogwoods with Fertilome Triple Action. These trees are most susceptible in the month of April to wood borers, which will kill the tree. Triple Action contains Pyrethrins, which is the only chemical that is currently available to protect against wood borers.
- Clean debris from plants and apply fresh mulch to landscape beds.
- Plant now, before the really hot weather sets in. When you plant, use Natural Guard Organic Plant Starter Food to stimulate root growth. It contains mycorrhizae, which are fungi that handle underground nutrition-gathering and protect the roots.
- Get your vegetables planted by the end of the month!

What's Blooming
AZALEAS - A Southern landscape must-have.
Make your yard, or at least a corner of it, an image of the
Augusta National Golf Club..... and pretend you are at the Master's Golf Tournament.
We have both the traditional once-a-year bloomers and the newer Encore repeat bloomers. Here is a picture of an older variety, Formosa, blooming at Wingard's right now. Delores' dad, Judson, grew this plant from a cutting years ago. Most of the old azaleas you see blooming around Lexington probably originated right here at Wingard's.

We offer three different types of sod;
Bermuda-Tifway, Centipede, and Zoysia-Zenith.

One pallet covers approximately 500 square feet. Please calculate your needs prior to ordering.

A roll, or piece of sod, covers 10 square feet. Individual sod rolls are not available for delivery
but rolls of Centipede can be purchased beginning mid-April.
