In 1988 Dr. James Hansen , then director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, testified before Congress and brought the issue of climate change to the public eye. Thirty years later, he continues to raise the public alarm about climate change. Hansen will give Luther's 2019 David J. Roslien Lecture on Science and Leadership at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. The lecture is titled, "Shape Your Future: Energy, Climate and Human Rights." A question and answer session and book signing will follow the lecture.

The Luther College Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Directed by Jon Ailabouni, the performance will include the "Boogie Stop Shuffle" by Charles Mingus, "Katie" and "Basie Straight Ahead" by Sammy Nestico, "Linebacker" and "Riverscape" by Fred Sturm, "Yardbird Suite" by Charlie Parker and "Black and Tan Fantasy" by Duke Ellington. Along with Jazz Band, two jazz combos, Free Time and Gimme Moore , will perform at the concert.

T-Pain  is coming Friday, May 3! SAC Concerts is excited to bring T-Pain to the Luther College Regents Center. With 60 hit songs under his belt and two Grammy trophies on his mantle, T-Pain has cemented himself as one of the most influential artists of all time. Doors are at 7:30, show starts at 8 pm. Get your tickets online or at the Ticket Office. Free with CAF, $45 for the public. Tickets must match ID shown at door.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) Luther Chapter would like to invite you to their end-of-the-year showcase on May 2 in Olin 101 from 7-8 p.m. Come hear what AMA is all about, the AMA Nationals Conference we attended this year in New Orleans, and how you could support AMA or become a member. Climate Justice Week Book Signing Events – Wednesday, May 1 after the  James Hansen's  Roslien Lecture in the CFL stick around the meet the author and purchase a copy of his book,  Storms of My Grandchildren . Thursday, May 2 after  Xiuhtezcatl Martinez's outdoor performance in Bentdahl Common stick around for an outdoor book signing of,  We Rise . Books for both of these events can be purchased in the Book Shop prior to the event and at the event.

The students of Jonah Elrod , visiting assistant professor of music, will debut their original compositions at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jensen Noble Hall of Music. The performance will also be live-streamed to those outside of a 30-mile radius of Decorah, and available as a delayed stream to all 48 hours after the concert at  https://portal.stretchinternet.com/luthermusic/ .

Multimedia Strategic Fellow:  One year, full-time position to participate on the User Services and Multimedia teams within Information Technology Services to assist the Multimedia Lead in promoting and supporting the effective uses of video, audio, textual, graphical, and other electronic media in support of teaching, learning, research, and administrative purposes. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required. Preference for a recent Luther graduate who was a Multimedia Technician student worker or other student worker within ITS or Luther.

Earn your work study hours in a fun and meaningful way with the Recycling and Compost Crew! Duties include emptying compost containers from academic buildings and residence halls, taking recycling to designated areas, and weighing compost to track student and staff engagement. Discussing the benefits of a liberal arts education, Spruiell White, Luther class of 1967, will give the address at this year's induction ceremony for new members of the Luther College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. White will present a lecture at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28 in the Noble Recital Hall, Jenson Noble Hall of Music.

In collaboration with the Des Moines Symphony, the Luther College Nordic Choir will perform Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" during the Masterworks 6: Simon Sings Porgy and Bess concert. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Des Moines Civic Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Ticket information is available at https://dmsymphony.org/ .

Are you tired of political polarization? Would you like to learn how to better communicate across the political divide? Founded after the 2016 election,  Better Angels  is an organization aimed at promoting understanding across party lines. We are looking for seven “red leaning” and seven “blue leaning” students to join Prof. Michael Engelhardt and the CEPE for a Better Angels “Red-Blue Dialogue,” 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Car Wash for a Cause -  To raise money for the Decorah Community Free Medical Clinic at First Lutheran Church, the Men’s Soccer team will be running a $10 car wash on April 27 starting at 3 p.m. at Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. Proceeds will allow the Clinic to offer more free medicine, x-rays and tests, and medical advice to uninsured and under-insured individuals. The Clinic is employed by medical volunteers and has been operating since 2002.
