All Aboard!

Dear friends,

Welcome to my "PHOTOBLOG" Newsletter, a monthly publication which is being sent to clients and friends, to keep them updated on my current photographic interests, new works and future developments.

My goal is to format the Newsletter around a short series of images, which I will try to describe briefly, so that important or interesting details will be easily available to the viewer.

Most of the imagery displayed here will also be on view at " IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery, located at 14406 Detroit Avenue in beautiful Downtown Lakewood, and I would be happy to extend to all an invitation to stop by sometime for a visit.

As always, I will appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to my work, and, should you enjoy these images, please feel free to share the"PHOTOBLOG" with friends and others as well; anyone interested in my work could be easily added to my distribution list by contacting me at  [email protected]

or   by visiting at  www.mellinophotography.com.

With Winter, hopefully, behind us the time has finally arrived to start thinking about ...water, swimming, outdoors picnics and, yes, boating too!
As I grew up in Italy, I always had the Mediterranean Sea only minutes away from home, and our Summers were a perennial "sail camp" of sort, more so since my Dad, as an officer of the Italian Navy, took us often on trips and new  wonderful  aquatic "adventures" throughout Italy and abroad.
So, now you will understand why "vacation" for me has little meaning unless it leads to   "water" somewhere...and Ohio with its Lake has been an unavoidable attraction since my first landing on US soil.
I love boats and boating, and I really love taking pictures of them; this month I would like to share with you a small portion of my nautical "moments", captured at home and far away, hoping to be able to illustrate the simple but ever alluring beauty and peace found in a quiet sunset as well as when nature is about to suddenly stir up its strength!

Lake Bracciano, about an hour north of Rome, has been a favorite destination thanks to its usually manageable winds and wonderful natural surroundings, with several small medieval towns and innumerable waterside trattorias dotting its periphery. This idyllic moment was captured in early October few years ago, as a storm suddenly begun to form. Above, a catamaran pleasantly gliding over the golden waters of a late Summer afternoon, as a couple went by on their row boat and a pair of swans kept up with their
"lovely" conversation...

The Adirondack sailing around the NYC Harbor, with a dozen passengers enjoying their morning at sea... as someboy else is sailing with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop!
All Aboard!
The "Bear" and the "Bull" were docked at the Annapolis Marina, I suspected belonging to a pair of friends involved in the Market...a great composition for an investor-friend!
"Flicker" is at home in the Rocky River...

Fishing stories abound anywhere, even in Florida...

Motoring back home, after a late Summer evening sail on Lake Erie.
Frozen Clifton Lagoons: unfortunately these two didn't make it out on time! Never knew what happened that Winter, but I don't remember seeing those boats again...

The "Amerigo Vespucci" is one of the largest and oldest "Tall ships" still sailing around the globe; it is the training vessel for the Italian Navy Academy cadets, who annually spend several months of extremely rigorous sailing as part of their Curriculum, on their way to becoming Navy Officers and some day being in charge of this and many more ships at sea. As a young cadet at the F. Morosini Naval High School College in Venice, I was lucky enough, along with about 100 more colleagues, to sail the Mediterranean for a month!! We were 16 and 17 years old, and quickly learned a lesson or two about being responsible and being able to answer for our actions and duties...not much margin for error out there! The crew didn't give us much slack, as the Vespucci had to sail to its next port no matter who was pulling the lines etc...but it really was an incredible, unforgettable experience for me, one that I still treasure and share with my old friends whenever we meet again!

Few years ago, on a trip to NYC, I saw this wonderful schooner sailing under the Verrazano Bridge...it quickly brought back memories of bygone days...

The " Floral portraits" being exhibited at the Art Gallery located within the Gates Mills Library have been brought back, besides the ones headed to their new permanent homes...

"Art by the River",the first Spring ART Walk at the CYC, will take place on Saturday, May 26th, from 1 to 4pm, concomitantly to the Annual "Boat Hop" and the Antique Car Show...it will be a very busy week-end filled with fun and interesting things to do and see for everyone, no matter what might interest you! CYC Artists-Members will exhibit their works under the Pavilion at Center Island, including watercolors, oils, acrylics, photography, textiles and pottery! Be sure to stop by and take the time to view their artistic creations, having the opportunity to meet with the Artists and discuss their styles, medium choices and overall accomplishments!

As always, we are pleased to welcome anyone interested to view some of my new photography available at "IMAGES" during Spring and Summer...it's only a phone call away!!

So...stay busy, keep cool and have fun...!
