Bruton Sisters

A captivating article by AWA Board Member Jann Haynes Gilmore, PhD about the lives of the Bruton Sisters. Margaret, Helen, and Esther. They make up a remarkable story of California-born siblings and artists who worked prolifically between the 1920s to the 1970s.

The Power of the Group

On occasion, we are going to run articles by AWA Members who will be sharing a specific recommendation that they attribute to their success. The first article, The Power of the Group, is by Dyana Hesson. Dyana believes in the power of collaborating with a group of fellow artists.

A Member's Generous Heart

Thank you to Paula Holtzclaw, Master Signature Member of American Women Artists, who donated a portion of the sales of her paintings from "A Celebration of American Women Artists" at Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC. The show featured the works of four AWA members that, in addition to Paula, included Isabel Forbes, Anne Harkness, and Ann Watcher.

The idea for the show was to celebrate women artists and spread the word about AWA. Leading up to the show's opening Paula, along with the gallery, placed advertisements in magazines and mentioned that a portion of the sales would be donated to American Women Artists. In addition to ads, Paula also utilized social media to inform the public about the show and the donation to AWA.

Paula was excited to share information about the organization with guests, collectors, and fellow artists at the show opening. "It was a great opportunity to talk to people about this wonderful organization in a casual setting. Everyone was very excited to learn about AWA," explained Paula.
