PRE-K:  PreK has been enjoying learning all about Pesach. We decorated our own Seder plates to bring home and also had a mock Seder at school. Ms. Josie's nieces visited our class all the way from Indiana, and that was really fun, too!

Kindergarten: This month in the Kindergarten class we have really focused on the story of Passover and the Holiday itself. We learned about Moses and his upbringing, and how he became the leader. We had fun with bringing in new characters every week with hands on learning. Everyone seemed to really enjoy learning about the story and really got involved with it. We learned Mah Nishtana, which I hope everyone sings at their Seder this week!

First + Second:    1st and 2nd grade enjoyed the last few weeks learning about the life of Moses, participating in a seder, making models of the burning bush, matzah covers, Elijah's cups and working so hard on Hebrew. All students practiced and mastered The Four Questions! We are having so much fun and learning a lot, we can't wait to finish out our year and show off our knowledge.

Third:  After learning about Passover, we practiced Ma Nishtanah for the Seder, and talked about the Four Questions (actually, it was more like Four-Questions Trivia).  We also started a new book on prayer,  Avodah , where the first chapter dealt with where we see G-d. Big things are under way in the Third Grade. We are reconstructing major events in the life of Moses, from the river to the sea

Fourth:  Fourth grade has been focusing on creating their project for the year. We are connecting the lessons that we learn from the Torah portions each week to the projects each student is coming up with and making sure we understand that the Jewish values we must exhibit in order to better our world.

Fifth:  Our class has been busy learning about Passover, not just the four questions, also about how families have different traditions at their seders. They decorated their own cup for Elijah, got to make Matzah, and participated in a Seder led by Eva and Rabbi Haas and Rabbi Henkin. I wish all of you Pesach Sameach and look forward to seeing the children on

Sixth:  The 6th grade has been focusing on getting ready for Pesach. Students have been identifying the lessons from Moses' life that they can apply in their lives today. Also, students have been practicing the seder to help lead during their families' seders.

Seventh: Shalom School's 7th grade class has had a busy few weeks! We wrapped up our Great Migration chapter with family history projects and spent a session learning about Passover. We reviewed the rituals, traditions, and story as we prepare for the holiday ahead. Our next session we will be covering World Wars I & II and moving into 20th century Judaism with topics such as the Holocaust and Zionism. We hope you have a wonderful Passover and we'll see you at our next session!

Matzah Factory at the JEA

Shalom School students were invited last week to a Matzvah Baking event. Under the guidance of Orly Henkin, students made their own  dough, rolled and baked their Matzah all while racing against the ticking timer and making sure the process wouldn't take more than the maximum 18 minutes allowed to have a kosher for passover matzah. A great hands on opportunity to learn more about the laws related to this holiday.
Thank you Orly, Adam and the JEA for a great program!

More Passover celebration at Shalom School...
As it is a tradition at Shalom School, we held a mock seder to be all ready for the big 2 nights! Led by Rabbi Haas, Rabbi Henkin and Eva Locker the seder was both instructive and fun. Students where amazing participants, quickly answering any challening questions coming their way.
