Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 04 29 19

P arents and Guardians,

This week marks the end of April and the last five weeks of school for students.  If you have a Senior, this last month of school is bittersweet, and I am sure you are wondering how the last four years went by so quickly. I encourage you to enjoy this time with your student and cherish each moment between now and June 1st.

This past Friday, the LHS National Honor Society hosted their annual Relay for Life event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This year's community event raised over $15,000 and more than 590 students participated.  A special thanks goes out to all of the students and adults that made the evening such a great success!

As I mentioned last week, Advanced Placement testing will begin next Monday and continue for two weeks. We will also have End of Course Exams next Tuesday (Biology), Wednesday (US History), and Thursday (Algebra 1). A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast would be helpful for students on test days.

Please take some time and review the information below about important dates, events, and student recognition. May is an incredibly busy month, and we hope this helps you know what is happening.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

New! LHS Fishing- State Bound!
Congratulations to the four Leopard Fishing teams who qualified for the State Championship!

Max Nwanebu & Connor Dunn - Stepping into a leadership role,  the freshman duo had a team leading, 20th place finish out of 208 qualifying teams.

Ben Burns & Coale Barr - qualified with another clutch performance in a season that had them neck and neck or leading the Angler of the Year (AOY) standings for most of the season!

Nathan Van Riper & Josh Windsor - punched their ticket to State which helped solidify their role as upper-classmen leaders!

John Armstrong & Josh Bittlestone - Last year's AOY winners, struggled a bit out of the gates this year.  With the help of their volunteer captain, Chris Parks, they were able to regroup to both make Regionals and a State Championship berth!

Sophomore Luke Wheatley represented LHS at the Tournament of Champions hosted at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.  This tournament is one of the most prestigious speech and debate competitions in the country and has an extremely difficult qualification process. There were students from over 300 schools and 4 countries competing. After two full days of preliminary competition in both Dramatic Interpretation (DI) and Oral Interpretation (OI), Luke qualified for the quarterfinal round of DI. This places him among the top 30 competitors in one of the most difficult tournaments for the year. We could not be more proud!

Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling
Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy's Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student's social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.
