SELF REFLECTIONS:
News & Updates
Over the past several months, SELF has updated our "brand." We modernized our logo and website and now have a presence on social media. We developed this internal and external communications structure to enhance message delivery and strengthen our ability to advocate for our participants and affect policy.

We’re excited to announce that our new and totally redesigned website is now live. Our new website provides a clear message of who we are, what we do, who we serve and our values. It boasts an impactful and responsive design, intuitive navigation, and substantive content. We invite you to connect with us on social media (see icons below), take a look at our website, and let us know what you think!

We Took the Pride Challenge! Did You?
The True Colors Fund, founded by Cyndi Lauper, awarded SELF with a Certificate of Appreciation for our team’s completion of the 2018 Pride Challenge. In total, 90 SELF team members completed the two-hour online training to help the City of Philadelphia win the national challenge. Big thanks to Jessica Sones of the Office of Homeless Services for organizing our winning strategy. OHS set out to train staff across the Philadelphia homeless services system to provide inclusive and affirming services for Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

SELF Alum Yvette Clark Loves Her New Home
Yvette Clark is a wonderful example of why we do the work we do. So often, people have difficult times. Their goal isn't to be homeless. Read Yvette Clark's story to learn more.

"I’ve always been able to take care of myself. I am not and have never been afraid of hard work. But after working for a company for several years, I was laid off and could not find another job. That is how me and my mom ended up at Erie House.

I tell you, the women there were so kind to us. I was intent on finding me a job so I could get a place. Every week I walked from Erie House, all the way to the Philadelphia Unemployment Project to look for work. Thank God, that when I got there someone gave me a ride back or I was able to get a token. If I needed to walk back, I would have done it but God had it so I didn’t have to.

Now, I have so much to be grateful for. I have to thank the Erie House, Connections, and Rapid Rehousing for my beautiful apartment. It’s all mine and I am so, so proud. Now I am looking for my mom so she can move in with me. I am so happy to have a place to call my own.  The ladies at Erie House saved my life. I will always be grateful!," Yvette Clark, former SELF participant.
SELF Team Takes CPR Training to Save Lives
SELF Program Managers attended a CPR training recently to learn how to save lives. Team Members were inspired by the selfless quick thinking of Quinton Kennedy, Assistant Program Manager, who recently performed CPR on a SELF team member helping to extend his life.
At the half-day training, team members not only learned cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but learned how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and First Aide as well.

Our New Administrative Office is Now Open in Center City
SELF’s administrative team moved into new digs at 1211 Chestnut Street, Suite 205. Thank you to our program partner Urban Affairs Coalition who helped us identify and secure the space. Over the past year the administrative worked from several SELF facilities to save money. The new lease also boosts a sizeable budgetary savings that has been placed back into participant programming. Stay tuned for an announcement about our Open House in the fall!
