APRIL - JUNE 2018

Happy Spring. Hope you enjoyed Easter or Passover with family and friends. I have had a long recuperation from hand surgery, so all a bit quiet on the photography sphere. Typing was impossible at first and now just mistake prone with my left hand pinkie still not moving normally. Getting ready to start our drive back to Massachusetts in mid April.  Best, Judith

MY BOOKS

"THE NUDE MATURED: BODY AND SPIRIT" is now available for purchase on Lulu and Amazon

Read the Press Release here!

The Nude Matured is influenced by the study of landscapes that involve forms that fascinate the eye: the sinuous forms that are nudes. As Auguste Rodin once said, "The human body is above all, the mirror of the soul, and from the soul comes its greatest beauty". I have focused my study on the mature woman, the nude figure that was worshipped in the past for her ripeness, even past her child bearing age. I have presented these nudes from the strength of self-awareness that only a mature women who has lived and suffered much can. I strive to enable women to see themselves as soft, vulnerable, desirable, but in control and not powerless. I hope to help women see the beautiful lines and curves of their body; an image of beauty that was worshipped in the past but has gone out of vogue. Thus, they may learn to focus not on their faults, but on their strengths. I have presented the female nude from two viewpoints: either with a softness to enhance a mood and reinforce the majesty and soft beauty of the feminine figure or with a hard edge to reflect the self-assurance and power of being female.   The yin and yang of being female.

PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS: Create a Story
Lavender is in the mint family and has a wonderful aroma. It is reportedly good to relieve stress, improve mood and promote peaceful sleep. It is native to the Mediterranean and does well with wet winters with good drainage and dry summers. Thus, I always like to have it in my gardens.
In Gloucester, I can grow English lavender (Hidcote) but in Arizona the common variety is French or Spanish lavender (also called butterfly or Anouk lavender).
A trip to England and the Cotswold's happened to be a lavender time. A visit to a lavender farm allowed me to photograph the lavender fields up close. Remember, when telling a story, you want to highlight the big picture, smaller views and of course close ups. Visual storytelling may include captions, but the picture is the key element.
Previsualize the story you want to tell. What will be the lead shot, subsequent shots and a closing shot.
Think about all the key elements in your photography, such as light and composition.
The images should emote a felling or meaning.
Never be afraid of failure. We learn from our mistakes.
