Families with children who have attended St. Rose Preschool may recall the lovely wall of glass art tiles displayed on the face of the counter as you entered the building. I have talked with a number of students who remember the wall and even the specific art work that graced the tiles. Back in November our contractors were able to find six of the tiles in the rubble and they are now preserved for history in a shadow box that will be hung once construction on St. Rose Preschool 2.0 is complete. Work on the preschool rebuild is progressing at a rapid pace. A conservative estimate of when it will be ready for occupancy is October 1 ^st.

 

We would like to recreate these art tiles with updated art work. This week your children have been working on drawings that could be used for this purpose. They will be sent home soon with a flyer that invites you to purchase a tile with your child's art work. Families can also opt to do a sentiment tile rather than artwork. The sentiment tile will be printed in a graphic design with your family's message.

 

The original tile project was done in 2008 and included art work from some of our older students. Any child or family who had a tile previously is offered the opportunity to replace it, free of charge.

 

Art work and information on how to participate will be sent home soon. Proceeds from the sale will be used to buy supplies for the preschool that insurance did not cover.

 

We are also planning a "Writing on the Walls" event for Monday, June 4 ^th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM within the walls of St. Rose Preschool. All members and alumni of our preschool community are invited to drop in and write their messages of hope and best wishes to all the youngsters who will attend our preschool in future years. It will be a fun opportunity to reconnect our community and celebrate the progress that has been made. The event is for children and parents. I hope you can come.
