We hope this newsletter finds you well.
Thank you for your continued support! We are proud to say that Women's History Month this March was a success. We had an excellent turnout from supporters, community members and fellow nonprofits at the Women's Empowerment Fair, including the UNC Women's Center and PORCH.
We would also like to give a special thanks to Mary Parry, the talented author who kicked off our WHM celebration at Feminist Story Time with Flyleaf Books. Her novel, Sady McGrady Runs for President, is a fascinating narrative that could evoke empowerment in girls and women of all ages.
In this newsletter, you'll hear about some of March's highlights, including the White Album Benefit Night and our recent community outreach services.
We also wanted to let you know this week is the
last chance to buy

White Album Benefit Night
|
|
Thanks to all of the board members, staff, volunteers, and community members who turned out for our fundraising events over the past few weeks.
Thank you to Gabriel David, the Three Corners Collective, the Local 506, and all the musicians who performed at the Beatles White Album Benefit Night! The performances were top-notch, the event was sold out, and $1,166 was raised to support our work. |

As part of our effort to raise community awareness about domestic violence to a broader audience, Compass Center has been conducting
Cut It Out trainings
at local salons. On, Monday, March 12,
Rishi Salon
in Southern Village participated in the training. The staff there was so engaged and had excellent questions about how to help clients access local resources.

Erin Hamilton, our Director of Education Programs, also conducted a training for Alternative Spring Break students who were going to Eastern NC to volunteer at domestic violence and sexual assault programs.
Community Outreach volunteers shared information about our programs at the UNC Total WELLbeing Expo.

Empowering Journeys Luncheon
|
Tickets are on sale now for our Empowering Journey Luncheon taking place on Wednesday, April 18, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel. Come network with some 300 attendees and help us raise funds to support people on their journeys to safety, self-sufficiency, and health. WUNC personality and "Criminal" podcast co-founder Phoebe Judge will share inspiring stories of former clients.

Survivors Speak: Oral History Project
|
The Compass Center is launching a new project to give survivors a platform to share their story! If you felt silenced during your legal proceedings, if you feel that something you learned could help another survivor, or if you feel you have a silence to break, the Survivors Speak Oral History Project might be for you. Compass Center advocates will be conducting 1-2 hour interviews with interested survivors
who received services at Compass Center
in the hopes of creating an enduring archive of survivor testimony for educational purposes. Survivors will have complete control over how and with whom their interview is shared; possible audiences include Compass Center staff and advocates, the Orange County Domestic Violence Task Force, and the wider community via publication on the Compass Center website or newsletter.
