Alternatives For Health
Herbal Apothecary

Owner Salli Greene began her herbal career with a cart in Quincy Market in Boston in 1977, where she sold live herb plants and home products. Salli moved back to Sturbridge in 2001 and, in 2004, she took a 10-month herbal class that introduced her to the world of medicinal herbs. It was a life changing experience. She learned there is nothing more wonderful than making products for your family's health. Salli continued studies with Rosemary Gladstar and other herbalists and now teaches Rosemary's 10-month Herbal Apprenticeship.

Salli's shop, Alternatives For Health, carries dried bulk herbs, teas and bath products, herbal products and blends for health, essential oils, flower essences, homeopathy, supplies, gifts, and much more. With this shop, Salli's love of herbs has really come full circle and she enjoys being there and meeting with customers. The goal at Alternatives For Health Herbal Apothecary is to provide quality products and services to help you get and stay healthy. Salli's greatest joy is to educate the consumer and have them make their own health products.

Ribbon Recap: The Overlook Vista Adult Day Care Program
Overlook Ribbon
On Friday, April 26, the Chamber presented a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Overlook in Charlton to celebrate their Vista Adult Day Program.

The Overlook Vista Adult Day Program, known fondly by residents and staff as "The Vista Club," is a non-medical adult day program for loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias. It provides a safe, structured environment in a beautifully designed location where your loved one can engage in purposeful activities, receive a nutritious lunch and snacks, and find friendship and fun. The goal of The Vista Club is to provide a place for individuals with dementia to feel independent, capable, able-minded and included. The staff at The Vista Club receive specialized dementia care training, allowing for successful engagement in purposeful, participant-centered activities. Our staff also become trusted companions who elicit good memories and create positive interactions that lift moods and increase personal worth, sense of belonging and confidence.

Pintastic Pinball Expo to Celebrate its Chocolate Anniversary
Play the Game, Meet the Stars from 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'

Meet Charlie (l), Mike Teavee (r) and Veruca Salt from the original 1971 movie at Pintastic New England.

Pintastic New England, the region's only large-scale pinball and game room expo, will be celebrating a chocolate anniversary of sorts in its fifth year at the Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference Center. With the highly-anticipated release of Jersey Jack Pinball's newest pinball machine based on the original classic movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", Pintastic organizers are thrilled to announce the stars from the movie as the very special guests at this year's expo.

Attendees of the summer silver ball event who purchase special passes will have the opportunity to meet and greet, get autographs, photos, and visit up close and personal with the actors who brought these beloved characters to life in the movie. The CE Pass to Pintastic includes time with the kids from Roald Dahl's timeless classic. Meet Mike Teavee (played by Paris Themmen), Veruca Salt (Judy Dawn Cole) and Charlie Bucket himself (Peter Ostrum) on Friday or Saturday at Pintastic. Visit pintasticnewengland.com online to secure your CE Pass before they sell out!

Guests of Pintastic will experience and interact with eighty years of pinball history as well as video games, entertainment for kids, tournaments, and innovative ideas for your home and game room in one convenient and well-appointed venue, the lakeside Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference Center. The expo takes place June 27-30. One ticket allows you to enjoy nearly 200 pinball machines set on Free Play (no quarters needed), over forty "old school" video arcade favorites, pinball tournaments for all ages, engaging seminars, an extensive hall full of amazing vendors and their wares, and much more. Delicious food, ice-cold beverages including beer, and fun activities for kids will be available right on-site throughout the show. Youngsters will enjoy a caricature artist, face painting, balloon animals, even a kids' pinball tournament with awesome prizes and opportunities to meet the Wonka kids in the vendor hall. Come for a casual afternoon or the whole weekend. If you need to exhale after experiencing the action inside, take a relaxing stroll on the grounds of the Sturbridge Host right down to the shores of picturesque Cedar Lake.

Besides the Willy Wonka machine from Jersey Jack Pinball, which is as crazy, colorful and wondrous as the chocolate factory itself, guests can also flip out with some of the newest and most sophisticated pinball machines in existence, like Stern Pinball's latest titles "The Munsters" and "Black Knight: Sword of Rage," and "Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle" by Spooky Pinball. Fans of the classic electro-mechanical games will not be disappointed either as the Free Play hall will house an entire section of these lovingly maintained and restored vintage machines from as far back as the 1930s.

Not all the action is in the Free Play Hall. If you have attended Pintastic in the past, you'll know the seminars, which are packed with fervent flipperheads every year, can be some of the most informative, exciting programs offered in the industry. No one who witnessed ace player Bowen Kerins' thrilling attempt to destroy all nine reactors of Spooky Pinball's "Total Nuclear Annihilation" last year will ever forget it! This year's seminar presenters and special guests include pinball game Sound Designer Chris Granner, Game Designer Eric Meunier from Jersey Jack pinball, and pinball artist Christopher Franchi who designed and will sign for guests the eye-catching 2019 Pintastic Pinball Expo poster. More guests and topics are being added, so check in with the Pintastic website for the latest.

This year, Pintastic is an official venue on the Stern Pro Circuit which comprises 20 of the most competitive pinball tournaments in the world. There will be seven tournaments in total during the expo for all ages including The Pintastic Silverball Rumble which is an IFPA (International Flipper Pinball Association) endorsed event and, also new this year, a women's tournament. If you have a desire to compete, Pintastic has a tournament for you to participate in.

Pintastic offers single day passes, Ultimate Experience Packages (two-day and four-day), and the limited CE Meet & Greet Add-On Package with the Wonka kids. Children under the age of 5 are admitted free. For times, tickets and more details, check out the Pintastic Pinball and Game Room Expo website at www.pintasticnewengland.com and make your room reservations today. Contact Pintastic by phone at 774-278-3541 or by email at pintasticnewengland@yahoo.com. For reservations call the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center at 508-347-3246.

DRINKING HABITS
A Farce by Tom Smith
May 10 - 26
Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm

Accusations, mistaken identities, and romances run wild in this traditional, laugh-out-loud farce. Two nuns at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing have been secretly making wine to keep the convent's doors open, but Paul and Sally, reporters and former fiancees, are hot on their trail. They go undercover as a nun and priest, but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down. Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves.

Presented by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

We Welcome Interesting Goodies for our Welcome Baskets!

New member Baskets

The Chamber has teamed up with the Center of Hope to create gift baskets to welcome new members to the Chamber of Central Mass South. The Chamber presents our new members with gift baskets that will not only have a monetary value but also to give the recipient an opportunity to learn more about other Chamber members and their services. These baskets make a terrific first impression and are a great way to introduce your business to new prospects. Can you help us fill these baskets with interesting goodies?

We are always seeking interesting, practical items to include in our welcome baskets. We welcome your contributions of items like modest gift certificates, discount coupons, items with your company's logo like piggy banks, thumb drives and coffee mugs, free trial items, small items your company manufactures or whatever else might promote your company and be a value to our new members.

We are looking to assemble about a dozen baskets at a time so that time sensitive material will not be out of date when received. If you would like to donate items for this program, please drop them off at the Chamber office or give us a call to arrange pick up your donated items. Contact Alix at 508-347-2761 or e-mail alexandra_mcnitt@cmschamber.org if you have any questions or to arrange a pickup. Thank you for your contributions!
