From The Co-Presidents

Hi   ,

Our Colorado Parents' Club members have had a busy spring!  On 7 April, our club had the opportunity to recognize our soon-to-be graduating firsties at our End of Year Celebration.  It was a great afternoon to reflect on everything our club has done to support our Colorado cadets over the past year, in addition to celebrating those cadets nearing the end of their USAFA journey.  We are so proud our 33 2019ers and can't wait to watch them soar as they venture off on new adventures.  Many thanks to Dan & Denise Bruder and DeVita Bruce for their leadership in organizing this event!

Our panel of USAFA grads included Kobi Rex ('15), Andrew Hendel ('09) and Chelsea Hendel ('10) pictured above LEFT with our emcee, Dan Bruder ('21)

Above RIGHT are the 2019ers who attended the event!

We also had our Spring General Membership Meeting on 28 April in the Arnold Hall Ballroom followed by a pizza social with our cadets.  An organization like ours can not operate without the active participation of its members.  We greatly appreciate those of you who attended and shared your voice so that we could continue to serve our members in a manner that reflects the opinion of our general membership.

Congratulations to the newly elected Executive Board for the 2019/2020 year:

Co-Presidents: Steve & Carrie Clancy ('21)

Treasurer: Derek & Lisa DeBastos ('22)
Secretary:  Mark & Christina Coffey ('23)
Event Coordinator:  Jim & Nathalie Flannery ('21)
Fundraising Coordinator:  Joe & Donna Bajek ('21)

June brings two more events...the  New Appointee Luncheon and our  I-day Picnic - many volunteers are still needed for key areas.  We highly encourage Class of 2022 families to volunteer, as  the New Appointee Luncheon and I-day are still fresh in your minds!  Please   contact our Event Coordinators,  Jim and Nathalie Flannery to see how we can best utilize your time and talents.

We are also looking for at least 12 cadets (Colorado cadets would be awesome!) to help at the New Appointee Luncheon.  If your DS/DD is available to mentor the new appointees on 15 June, please reach out to Jim and Nathalie Flannery!

It's our honor to serve with our fellow volunteers and we look forward to wrapping up this year and gearing up to welcome the class of 2023 in just a couple of months!

Colorado Cadets in Action
Our Colorado Cadets are doing great things on the sports fields, in the academic arena, and in many extracurricular activities. We'd love to highlight their achievements and share their accomplishments with our general membership. If you have news to share, please email photos and a brief synopsis of the activity and cadets involved to [email protected]. We will share those stories in our monthly newsletters.

We'll kick off this new series with a look at how the USAFA Sandhurst Team performed in their recent competition at West Point this month. For those not familiar with Sandhurst, it's a very physical feat focused on 15 events: shooting events (pistol, grenade, rifle), combat swimming, boating (Zodiac), obstacle, land navigation at night, medical, etc... over 30 straight hours and over 27 miles of terrain (soggy, hilly terrain). USAFA cadets train all year for a chance to participate in this annual event.

USAFA did amazing in the competition, but were unable to repeat as champion. They were in the top ten in this international competition (9th - right behind Canada and ahead of Australia). West Point came out on top this year. Colorado Cadet C/3C Spencer Rohlwing (pictured below) was a member of this year's competition team. - submitted by Steve Rohlwing ('17, '21, '23).

Get to Know Your CPC Board & Committee Chairs

Each month we will be introducing a new board or committee member, so our general membership can get to know the team that is working hard behind the scenes.  This month, meet a few members of our End of Year Celebration Committee,
Joe Bajek ('21), Roberta Tucker ('19) and Christy Mettler ('21)

Joe Bajek is the proud father of two daughters. Sierra is a freshman at Regis Jesuit High School and Brielle a C/3C is CS 4 at USAFA.

The Bajek family enjoys camping and hiking, DU Hockey and anything outside with their dog Zoey. Sierra is active in pet sitting, babysitting and ballet and lyrical dance.

Joe has called Colorado home since 1999 when he moved out from Connecticut. He currently serves as the Director of Infrastructure & Operations at Centura Health. Before joining Centura, Joe has worked for the University of Colorado Hospital where he was the Chief Technology Officer.

Aside from volunteering his time with the USAFA Colorado Parents Club, Joe works with the Boy Scouts of America, serves on the curriculum advisory board for the Regis University Computer Science department, is a sports photographer for the Colorado High School Athletic Association and is a the former President of the Board of the Colorado chapter of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.

Joe holds a degree from the State University of New York, Maritime College. He served as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve for 13 years and was a Merchant Marine officer for 22 years.

Roberta and Terry are the proud parents of C/1C Mikela Tucker, a member of the USAFA women's basketball team. Roberta originally hails from Northern Minnesota and Terry is originally from Chicago.  They moved to Colorado from Texas prior to Mikela's senior year in high school. Terry is a writer and motivational speaker ( www.motivationalcheck.com ) and Roberta is a partner in an asset management firm in Denver. They enjoy everything sports.  Mikela must have inherited her love of basketball from Terry, as he also played college basketball.  Mikela was born in Santa Barbara, CA, and will return to her birth state after commissioning when she  will be assigned to Space Operations at Beale AFB.

Miles & Christy Mettler are the proud parents of four amazing athletes.  Their daughter, C/3C Maria Mettler, is a member of the USAFA Cross Country and Track & Field teams.  Miles works at Focus on the Family (he gave the invocation at our End of Year Celebration) and Christy is a substitute teacher in Academy School District 20.  They call Colorado Springs home and enjoy the outdoors with their dog, Lucy, while running, hiking and golfing.  They treasure  family time and enjoy traveling to see all of their kids' activities.

Spring Finals Goodie Bags

As most of you know, our primary fundraiser (which funds the annual I-day picnic) is our Goodie Bag program.
As a benefit of CPC membership, your cadet will receive a Spring Finals Goodie Bag.

Consider ordering for cadets you sponsor, your cadet's roommate, or simply purchase an extra that can be donated to those cadets (identified by their AOC's) who need a little pick-me-up.  The order deadline for Spring Finals Goodie Bag Orders is Tuesday, April 30th.

Our Goodie Bag Coordinator, Donna Bajek, runs a very well organized program, but it is a major undertaking which requires a lot of behind the scenes help. We need volunteers to help us assemble the Goodie Bags prior to each delivery.  Consider helping assemble the Spring Final's Goodie Bags on Sunday, May 5th, in the Cadet Field House.  It's a great way to get to know your fellow CPC members AND give back to our cadets! Times and duties can be found in the link below:

Class of 2019 Information

Several businesses and vendors have reached out to us about items they sell for the graduating USAFA class.  We are sharing this information as it becomes available.  Keep in mind that CPC does not have any type of business relationship with any of these companies.  We are simply passing along information that is shared with us.

This month, we have information regarding Bremont watches (shared via the AOG with our club) and graduation banners...a special offer from a local company that donated their services to our Colorado Night.

Any items sold by USAFA Parent Clubs can be found in the USAFA Parent Liaison section below, as that is forwarded to us directly by Marie Nikovits.
