New York, New York-Friday March 19, 2018. The week of March 12, the NYS Latino Health Advocacy Network conducted successful Legislative Educational Days in Albany, New York. The delegation met with members of Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration; leadership from the New York State Department of Health/AIDS Institute and the newly formed Bureau of Social Determinants of Health. The network met with Republicans, Independents, and Democrats in the New York State Assembly and Senate to discuss our legislative health priorities.

The main issues addressed with the members of the New York State Assembly and Senate during the meetings included: securing resources for the implementation of the End of AIDS Epidemic Blueprint; addressing the Opioid and Hepatitis C epidemic; responding to the HIV infections among Latino Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Latinas, and Transgender communities; the rise of TB cases and need for funding to avoid an epidemic; funding for safe injection safe hubs, housing rental assistance for upstate New York; and the protection of Prescriber Prevails language in the final 2019-2020 New York State budget.

On March 15th and 16th, over 125 providers, people living with HIV, public health officials, program directors, peer educators, case managers, and health care providers, among others from many cities and counties, gathered at the Hilton Albany Hotel for the 2018 Reunion Latina Training Institute. The Institute offered various trainings and workshops on how best engage Latinos on a variety of health issues and conversations on gender and populations most impacted by HIV, Hepatitis and STIs. Reunion Latina recognized the commitments in advancing the implementation strategies to end AIDS in New York State by 2020 and to work together in developing a comprehensive community-driven health action agenda to reach and promote healthy communities. As Reunion Latina finalized we received the announcement that Governor Cuomo approved housing rental assistance for people living with HIV who were eligible as well as announcing Ending the Hepatitis Epidemic in NYS. This was a great accomplishment by many coalitions and advocacy groups including the NYS Latino Health Network.

Nueva York, Nueva York, viernes 19 de marzo de 2018. La semana del 12 de marzo, la Red Latina de Abogacía del Estado de Nueva York llevó a cabo exitosos Días Educativos Legislativos en Albany, Nueva York. La delegación se reunió con miembros de la administración del gobernador Andrew Cuomo; el liderazgo del Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York /Instituto del SIDA y la recientemente formada Oficina de Determinantes Sociales de Salud. La Red se reunió con republicanos, independientes y demócratas en la Asamblea y el Senado del estado de Nueva York para discutir nuestras prioridades legislativas de salud.

El Instituto ofreció varias capacitaciones y talleres sobre cómo involucrar mejor a los latinos en una variedad de problemas de salud y conversaciones sobre el género y las poblaciones más afectadas por el VIH, la hepatitis y las ITS.
