Notes from the Warming Center
This frigid, winter season, the Bethel Men's Warming Center was able to provide nightly shelter for over 175 different men from November 12 to April 1. The 2017-2018 season was the most active yet, with an average of 45 to 55 men residing at the shelter each night.
The United Way of York County, SC was able to sponsor the Warming Center, the only emergency men's shelter in the county, for its eleventh season. Shelter leaders from Bethel United Methodist Church were grateful for this sponsorship and their ability to partner with various local churches to meet this season's high demand for shelter. Volunteers from across the community worked together to provide the men with dinner each night, breakfast every morning, clothing, and other winter gear to keep them warm.
Throughout the season, many men were able to utilize the provided case management and follow-up care to obtain employment and find housing in appropriate programs in our community. The United Way of York County, SC is excited to provide annual support for this initiative and humbled to have assisted in providing shelter for over 175 men this winter season.
