Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center (R6-SCPHTC) funded for 2018-2019

The Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center (PHTC) is pleased to announce its HRSA funding proposal was successful; We will be funded for 2018-2019! R6-SCPHTC will continue its wonderful partnerships with The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Texas Health Institute, t he  National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) and the Louisiana Public Health Institute. 

In addition to collaborating with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and our current local performance sites, R6-SCPHTC will work with several new partners. These partners include: 
  • Southern Plains Tribal Health Board
  • Oklahoma Public Health Association
  • Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center
  • Nuestra Salud
  • Texas Association of City and County Health Officials
  • New Orleans Health Department
We are excited to begin working with everyone in the next phase of the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center!

Michael Jenkins, HRSA Project Officer, visited Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center Headquarters on Monday, May 21, 2018.  During his visit, Mr. Jenkins met with R6-SCPHTC team members and toured our facilities at Tulane University's Center for Applied Environmental Public Health (CAEPH). 

Mr. Jenkins was able to observe the day-to-day operations of the R6-SCPHTC (including a breakdown of our course development process and a demo of our customized learning management system). We enjoyed hosting Mr. Jenkins and look forward to his next visit.

Featured Course Bundle: Safe Water Program Improvement (SWPI)

The Safe Water Program Improvement (SWPI) eLearning Series helps health department programs strengthen services to people that use wells, cisterns, springs, and other private drinking water systems not covered by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Oversight for these systems vary, but core elements of successful, sustainable programs are similar. SWPI walks through the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services and the Environmental Public Health Performance Standards, and provides examples of using them to identify and fill program gaps in these types of drinking water programs.

The SWPI e-Learning Series consists of 9, 1-hour courses. Course titles are listed below:
  • SWPI 101 - Introduction: The 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services for Unregulated Drinking Water Programs
  • SWPI 102 - Assessment: Monitor Health
  • SWPI 103 - Assessment: Diagnose and Investigate
