Letter from the Director
by Sally Tornow
Last week was our annual luncheon organized in her usual creative fashion by Gail Copple, our Volunteer Coordinator. I have been privileged to speak at many of the Volunteer Lunches over the years in my role first as Volunteer Coordinator, then as Public Services Librarian, and for the past few years, as Director. Putting those words together made me realize afresh how completely different everything will be by this time next year. Not only will we not have a space in which to have a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, we won’t really have a space for most volunteers! It is hard to imagine what life will be like, restricted to just the original library building, but I know our staff’s entire focus will be to make it the very best experience for our patrons that it can be.
Preparations continue, with cleaning out closets and as much extraneous other items as possible. If any of you have ever moved house, you know that’s the time you discover how much ‘stuff’ you put in a closet 15 years ago because “you might need it someday,” but you haven’t looked at it since. No point in moving or keeping any of it!
We did discover some wonderful items, real keepers, a couple of which are pictured below. We will be saving a special place in the new Library for these and the other really gorgeous historical items.
