Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan
In a key success for the Sierra Club Great Falls Group, the
Budget Committee of the
Board of Supervisors voted April 26th to support funding for new staff and contract resources necessary to develop a Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP). This plan is necessary to address the 97% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the County from the private sector and to develop a roadmap to meet the County’s GHG reduction goals.
On April 2 the Environmental Committee expressed strong support for additional funding of approximately $277,000 for two new staff members to lead the development of the CECAP and for contractor funding of $600,000 to $1.4 million. Support came from all members of the Board, including Budget Committee Chair, Jeff McKay.

Spotlight on Earth Day Cleanup
Adopt a Highway Cleanup on Earth Day, April 22, 2019
For our Earth Day Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Jones Branch in Tysons, some of the uncustomary items we found were a child's sock, a woman's leather glove, part of a car grill, a broken umbrella, and plastic eye protectors.
Rather than buying new, join us at our fall cleanup and find free things on the highway curbs and rights-of-way which you may need! Watch for the announcement for the fall clean-up in August.
