New Profiles on Childbearing Among Mid-Life Women
In a new series of profiles, we examine the fertility behaviors and desires of women aged 40 and older. Childbearing Among Women 40 and Older (FP-18-07) demonstrates that despite increases in birth rates among women 40 and older, only 3% of all births in 2016 were to older women. In Characteristics of First-Time Mothers Aged 40 and Older (FP-18-08), we show that mothers who delayed childbearing until age 40 or later were more educated than their counterparts who had children earlier. Finally, Childbearing Desires, Intentions, and Attitudes Among Women 40-44 (FP-18-09) reveals that, in 2013, 42% of childless women aged 40-44 wanted to have a baby in the future, as shown in the figure below. Susan Brown, Clifford C. Clogg Award
Distinguished Professor Susan Brown is this year's recipient of the Clifford C. Clogg Award for Mid-Career Achievement. The award honors outstanding innovative scholarly achievements of population professionals who have attained their highest professional degree within the previous 10-20 years. The award is sponsored by the Population Association of America (PAA) in association with the Population Research Institute of The Pennsylvania State University and commemorates the memory and creative contributions of Clifford C. Clogg to the field of quantitative methods and labor force demography.  
 

I-Fen Lin, Fellow Status at GSA 
 

Professor I-Fen Lin was recently awarded Fellow status by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA). Dr. Lin's areas of expertise include aging and the life course, statistics and research methods, and disability and caregiving, to name a few.

Brown & Lin, President's Award for Collaborative Research & Creative Work

Distinguished Professor Susan Brown and Professor I-Fen Lin received a President's Award for Collaborative Research and Creative Work at the Faculty Excellence Awards April 9. The award recognizes innovative research and creative work conducted by faculty members in collaboration with graduate students. For the last three years, the colleagues have been working with two graduate students, Anna Hammersmith and Matthew Wright, on a National Institutes of Health-funded research project on gray divorce and well-being. 

Professor Emeritus Al DeMaris

Al Demaris recently retired as Professor Emeritus after thirty years in the Department of Sociology with Bowling Green State University. Dr. DeMaris' research has focused on issues and factors in families and romantic relationships. As an expert in social statistics, he has also served as the statistician for the Center for Family and Demographic Research (CFDR) and as an NCFMR research affiliate.
