Healthy Pond Series

Pond problems? Join us at our next workshop in a new series for pond owners, HOA groups and residents grappling with stormwater pond management decisions. As part of our Healthy Pond Series, maintenance topics will be highlighted at events throughout the year; programs will provide guidance from experts as well as an opportunity for pond owner networking and community idea sharing.

Volunteers Needed! Oyster Reef Build

SCDNR's South Carolina Oyster Restoration & Enhancement (SCORE) program is teaming up with the Charleston Surfrider Foundation, Folly Green and the Ashley Cooper Stormwater Education Consortium to offer a summer oyster reef build. This unique volunteer opportunity will take place at the Folly Boat landing (Folly Beach) on June 15th from 3pm to 5pm. Event is free but registration is required. Help give back to your local waterways that will provide so much fun for you and your family this summer!

From Seeds to Shoreline Teacher Workshops
August 8 & August 9, 2018

"From Seeds to Shoreline" (S2S) is led by SC Sea Grant Consortium in partnership with SC Department of Natural Resources & Clemson Cooperative Extension. Through S2S students actively participate in a salt marsh restoration effort by collecting, storing, germinating and eventually planting
Spartina alterniflora in a South Carolina salt marsh. Teachers interested in participating in S2S must attend a teacher training. Registration for the one-day trainings are free but advanced registration is required. Deadline to register is June 30, 2018.

Master Rain Gardener,
" a new
online and field-based certification program
focused on rain garden and rainwater harvesting system design and installation. To learn more, watch this short video highlighting the field day installation on April 26 at the Medway Community Garden on James Island, or visit

The Spring 2018 Master Pond Manager class included more than 30 participants from across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Alabama and representing pond owners, pond management professionals, and city and county staff. The ten-week course ended in a series of two field days in Charleston, SC hosted at the Charleston County Public Services Building and the College of Charleston's Dixie Plantation. As part of the Stormwater Pond Management Field Day, participants helped to install a floating wetland and shoreline planting project at the Charleston County site.

The ACSEC mission: Improve water quality within the Ashley and Cooper River basins by providing educational opportunities on stormwater impacts and our community roles in supporting healthy, fishable, and swimmable waterways.
