What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of submissions that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn handles limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady ).To apply to any limited submission posted below, click on the above link and search for your competition reflected on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.
Limited Submission Announcements

The Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC) program supports university-based centers and institutes where the collective efforts of a larger group of individuals can enable transformational advances in the most promising research areas. The program is designed to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics by providing needed resources such as combinations of talents, skills, disciplines, and/or specialized infrastructure, not usually available to individual investigators or small groups, in an environment in which the collective efforts of the larger group can be shown to be seminal to promoting significant progress in the science and the education of students. Activities supported through the program are in all sub-fields of physics within the purview of the Division of Physics: atomic, molecular, optical, plasma, elementary particle, nuclear, particle astro-, gravitational, and biological physics. Interdisciplinary projects at the interface between these physics areas and other disciplines and physics sub-fields may also be considered, although the bulk of the effort must fall within one of those areas within the purview of the Division of Physics. The successful PFC activity will demonstrate: (1) the potential for a profound advance in physics; (2) creative, substantive activities aimed at enhancing education, diversity, and public outreach; (3) potential for broader impacts, e.g., impacts on other field(s) and benefits to society; (4) a synergy or value-added rationale that justifies a center- or institute-like approach.

The purpose of the SLSNCGP is to support innovative, education-based approaches to addressing disaster preparedness and specific responses related to natural and human-made disasters. The SLSNCGP supports quality of life in communities across the United States by addressing disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery in the context of human sciences, food, agriculture, and natural resources. The SLSNCGP provides information and tools to USDA, stakeholders, and collaborators to improve decision-making in handling disasters.

Funds will support innovative extension education initiatives that address risks, hazards, and disasters. The SLSNCGP sponsors targeted projects that enable Cooperative Extension System (CES) to assist in preparing for, providing an educational response to, and recovering from disasters. Some types of hazards and disaster-related events funded in previous years include uncertainties caused by losses of economic infrastructure, severe weather or other natural disasters, security breaches, human disease, or high consequence animal diseases and plant pests. The SLSNCGP increases awareness and capacity building of urban/rural communities' response to disasters by increasing individuals, families, farms and small businesses disaster preparedness through education and collaborations with other agencies/volunteer organizations.

IMPORTANT UPDATES


The Office of Proposal Services & Faculty Support is hosting two PIVOT Workshop sessions this May. These sessions are designed to aid Auburn Researchers in finding funding for their research.

PIVOT is a subscription database with more than $56 billion (USD) in funding through more than 22,000 funding opportunities from numerous sponsors across all disciplines. Auburn faculty, students, and staff can search the database and create custom email funding alerts based on the criteria provided by the individual user. Funding opportunities can also be shared, saved, and tracked.

Each workshop session will provide an overview of how to create/claim your profile, update keywords to improve curated searches, find Auburn and external expertise, and conduct in-depth funding searches.

All Auburn researchers (including graduate students) from all disciplines are welcome to attend either session, as their schedule allows. Feel free to come at any point during the two hours: staying the entire time is not required.

Both sessions will be covering the same information so attending both days is not required.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Please bring a laptop to ensure you get the most out of your session.

Communicating Science Workshop

The Offices of the Vice President for Research and Proposal Services and Faculty Support invite you to join your colleagues for an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Communicating Science workshop specifically designed to help you plan and participate in a wide variety of public engagement activities. The half-day workshop focuses on the importance of effective, two-way communication and is designed to enable you to engage in meaningful, reciprocal dialogue with diverse audiences. The program was launched at the 2008 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston and has since provided more than 220 workshops for over 7,000 attendees at universities, science society meetings, and government agency labs in the US and abroad. We are excited about bringing the Workshop to Auburn University for faculty in all disciplines.

NEH Summer Stipend Application Information

  • Auburn University can nominate two applicants for NEH Summer 2020 Stipends
  • Summer Stipends carry an award of $6000 for scholarly projects including books, articles, digital materials, translations, editions and other scholarly resources.
  • Applicants should read the NEH guidelines carefully and submit an electronic copy of a polished draft of the NEH application form to the Auburn NEH Committee by the deadline: 5:00 p.m., 1 July 2019. The official form will be available on the NEH Summer Stipends website on 15 May. However, the form does not change in substantial ways, and you may begin your draft early if more convenient.

  • 3-page narrative
  • 1 page bibliography (which should demonstrate preparation for the project)
  • 2-page resume (in editing the full resume, proof of competence for the project should be a priority)
  • Appendices if relevant
  • Submit applications to pkrb@auburn.edu. The committee will make its selections after that and will work with the selected nominees to refine their proposals by 16 August. The NEH deadline is 25 September 2019. NEH accepts applications only from those nominated by their university or organization.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership was established to foster transformational leadership capacity and support innovation to advance the field of landscape architecture. The fellowship is an opportunity for mid-career or senior-level professionals to dedicate the equivalent of 3 months' time over the course of one year to nurture emerging ideas and to think deeply. It is designed as a time to reflect, research, explore, create, test, and develop ideas into action. 

Selected projects must demonstrate the potential to bring about impactful change to the environment and humanity and have the capacity to grow the leadership potential of landscape architects.
