Family and Community Engagement (FACE)
All school year we have been focusing on many topics, but especially mental health.

As a district we:
* watched the documentary film, Angst;
* had speakers come and talk about anxiety and depression;
* had a group of juniors teach a lesson with every middle school and high school mentoring group on activities you can do when you are feeling stressed.

The next upcoming event is on April 1. Please mark your calendar for what promises to be a very exciting day.

High school students are planning a day of special activities with the theme "Find Your Balance: How to Cope Workshops" on Monday, April 1 for their fellow students in grades 6-12. Nine Juniors in the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio's First Ring Student Leadership Academy are coordinating the event as a part of their project on mental health, specifically learning to deal with daily stressors such as school, activities, sports, family, friends, and relationships.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in four 25-minute sessions throughout the day. Topics include mindfulness and meditation, outdoor walking, art and drawing to relax, journaling, therapy dogs, board games, healthy eating, yoga, journaling, and more.
Teachers and staff will lead the sessions.

A special guest presentation from Jessie Funk, a nationally-recognized motivational speaker, author, and musical artist will also be part of the day.

Then that evening, she will headline a Parent University event at Gilles-Sweet Elementary at 6:30 p.m. This event is geared towards both parents and students.

Jesse shares dynamic music, entertaining and visually stories, and real-world tools to help kids build confidence, set boundaries to have healthy relationships, and learn the power of forgiveness. The presentation is designed to build resilience and mental toughness. Educators and parents can expect their students to leave the presentation with motivation to become leaders of their lives.

If you have any questions about this April 1st or would like any resources on mental health, please let me know.
