The ADM Board has targeted prevention funding available for our local schools to support resources and programming that promote the well-being of Summit County youth.
The guidelines are as follows:
Award(s) of up to $2,500 for individual buildings to help address resiliency within the student population in Summit County.
District wide and multi-building projects can be considered for a higher allocation.
Preference will be given to schools located in quadrants identified at highest risk based on Youth Risk Behavior Survey data.
Programs that have received previous funding through this process will be evaluated for continued funding based on demonstrated positive outcomes.
These funds can be used to develop new programs or expand existing ones. While funds can be used to expand current initiatives, they cannot be used to supplant existing funding of those programs.
Eligibility is limited to Summit County School districts.
The ADM Board is seeking to fill an Americorps VISTA position to continue the work on our local ROSC evaluation process.
In this position, the VISTA will work to increase access and awareness of prevention, treatment and supportive services for local residents impacted by substance use disorders and/or mental illness. Persons who have knowledge of the field and/or lived experience are encouraged to apply!
Congrats to John Zarski, "Step up to the Challenge"
The 2019 ADM Recovery Challenge 5K Medal Design contest winner was announced at Community Support Service's Art of Recovery event last week. John Zarski, resident supervisor and client educator at IBH Addiction Recovery Center created the winning design.
Mr. Zarski has been in long-term recovery for 4 ½ years. John’s thoughtful design was inspired by his knowledge and experience of the 12 Steps and shows that recovery happens when you “step up to the challenge”. He wants others to know that the steps seem simple, but are not necessarily easy.
The 7th annual ADM Recovery Challenge 5K will be held on Saturday, June 1st at IBH Addiction Recovery Center and includes running/walking and obstacles that are metaphoric to the challenging path recovery can be for those fighting addiction and mental illness. The race also will offer a family-friendly one mile loop this year.
Addictions & Opiates: What’s New, What’s Next will be a day filled with innovative and inspirational ideas for everyone from the seasoned clinician to the grassroots organizer. This very affordable event will offer two tracks – clinical or general – and guests will learn about best practices from leaders in addiction medicine from here and around the country.
What’s Next?
Learn about the next frontier in medicine using virtual reality. Hear about the best practices in reducing stigma and overdose deaths. Equip yourself with motivating and actionable information that will enhance your perspective and knowledge about addiction.
Event sponsored by: Summit County Public Health, The University of Akron, Summit County ADM Board, Summit County Opiate & Addiction Task Force and New Territory.
