Happy Friday to you! What a great day Thursday turned out to be. This spring weather has been so nice. Our students were working towards a major IP due date. By turning in their rough draft, they were invited to enjoy donuts outside in the sun. We want to celebrate deadlines being hit as this is a skill that will continue to pay off.  We hope our students came home happy and felt exactly the way we felt, a job well done. We are seeing such amazing work being done by our students as this is for many the hardest piece of Independent Projects. We will continue pushing towards final drafts.

Mindset thought of the week: One of Maya Angelou’s famous quotes is “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Always remember to be kind and treat people the right way. 

Enjoy the sunny weather on this extended weekend! Be safe and we will see everybody on Monday!

A Note About Testing:

Our belief about testing is that it is a part of our lives. Getting into colleges, becoming a CPA, any online class, driver's license - all involve testing that is electronic. From the tiny experiences to the full blown SAT, your kids will be prepared - not stressed - from experiencing these types of assessments. We use them to provide an "apples to apples" approach to progress of students from year to year. What we know for sure is: our curriculum challenges students! These tests are all part of that higher expectation. Students at TRCS do very well on the testing, a good part of that is due to your work at home with your kids and the talented teaching staff partnered with you. We provide the training for kids to be successful - not stressed - on these types of tests. They are not going to get "away from them," but rather we are helping them to cope effectively through them. What you can do for us is:

1. Watch the Wave and know when testing is coming for your kids.
2. Get them to school on time!
3. Provide a healthy breakfast each morning!

Without a doubt, this is a team effort and one that is headed to the future.

Tardies
We cannot stress enough how important it is to have students in their seats ready to learn at 8:00 am. We have noticed an increase in tardies and respecfully request that all families work together to get kids to school on time. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that each morning each student starts on time!
Allergy Season
Allergy season is upon us. With warmer temperatures and drier days we are seeing students suffering with allergy symptoms here at school. Swollen, itchy, red, watery eyes, runny noses and sneezing to name a few. If your child has allergies you may want to consider filling out a medication administration form (self or staff) and send it in along with your students personal medication to the office:
TRCS & SOLVE Volunteer Day
On Friday, May 10th, our entire school will be heading to Mary S. Young Park to volunteer for SOLVE. We are looking forward to helping out our community by cleaning up the park - would you like to join us? We are inviting any and all parents to come along for the afternoon - the more, the merrier! 2019-2020 Calendar 
Thank you to all of the stakeholders that provided feedback as we developed the best calendar possible for our next school year. We have taken all suggestions and opinions into account and have a final calendar to share with everyone. You can view the calendar here. State Testing Info
Schools all across Oregon are Smarter Balanced testing this spring. We have begun with practice tests in Language Arts and Math. This will familiarize students with the interface of the testing and help them to know what to expect. Testing begins on May 7th (see the schedule above). Please help us by not scheduling any appointments during the school day for the next several weeks - keep your kids at school so that this testing season can run smoothly for teachers & students! Also, please check in with your student to see if they have earphones/earbuds at school to use on the upcoming testing. These were on the school supply list for the year and are necessary for state testing! Thank you!
2019-2020 Enrollment
It is that time again - we are preparing for the 19-20 school year lottery! This year, we will have two informational meetings and one open house. We need your help to spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors! The info meetings will be at TRCS on May 16th at 6 pm and May 20th at 3:30 pm. The open house will be on May 23rd 8:30-10 am. Please be watching the Wave in May for intention forms for current students and any siblings you would like grandfathered into TRCS. Please remember the decision to return to TRCS can be sensitive and is best kept private for families to discuss. We appreciate parents encouraging students to keep the discussion of this topic at home while we focus on ending the 2018-19 school year strong! Thank you!
A note about IP boards : The standard display board is 36" x 48" and folds to 36" x 24". This is the board size we want students to have. Please just get the cardboard ones; the more expensive foam core boards are not necessary. Some students choose to make their own display boards and should discuss this with their IP teacher. We will let students know when they can bring those boards to school (June). We do not have space to store them prior to that time. It might be a good idea to purchase a board now, as selection can get limited at stores as we approach the end of the school year - just please store them at home until students are notified by their IP teacher to bring them into to school. Thank you!

All IP groups had their rough draft papers due on Thursday, 4/25! Congratulations to all of the students who met this deadline and participated in our donut celebration!

The Novice group worked on their bibliographies and importing pictures with captions to the end of their rough draft. Students are also working on their cover art work for their research papers/accordion books. (If anyone did not complete these things, they should work on them this weekend.) Next week students will get back their rough drafts to edit and revise for their final drafts. They started their class literature novel, too - Sheep by Valerie Hobbs!  

Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II and PBL Groups all turned in their rough drafts Thursday! Check in with your student to make sure they turned it in, and if they didn't, that they have talked to their teacher about their plan to do so. Next week brings final drafts and most classes will begin their spring literature book!
